Foolishly expecting that HG would accept a Canadian credit card (from an American company, no less), I submitted an order the other day. Finding out that this is not the case, I've decided to order from a Canadian distributor and avoid the hassle.
I'm disappointed that one of my favorite game companies finds this a neccessary policy since none of the others I deal with do. I doubt there is more CC fraud from Canada than the states, anyway - though admittedly I have no proof of that. Also, you might want to advertise this fact on the main online store page or at least trhe invoice page. I stumbled on to this in the faq trying to find a way to verify that my order was received.
I'll continue to support HG but I won't be doing it through the online store for anything available elsewhere.
How do I
1) verify that an order did, in factm, go through in spite of an invalid card;
2)cancel my order, if it did?

What cards are accepted is something for HG to answer...
...However, on the subject of when an order goes through, I can help out a bit:
An order is placed only when a credit card transaction is successfully completed. Until that happens, the items will remain in your cart (assuming you don't remove them)
Once an order has been placed, it will appear on your "order status" screen. You can get to the order status screen via the link at the bottom of the main store page, or by going to https://secure.compnetco.com/herogames/orderStatus.jsp
The order status screen will show you the status of all orders you have placed since the new store software was brought online.
Hope this helps!

Thanks. Apparently I have no orders placed. I needed to vent anyway. I've ordered through GOO and SJGames with no trouble at all. This just irks me.

Hmm...
Please let me know what messages (if any) you received when trying to place your order. We do actually accept orders from outside of the United States (the FAQ needs updating) so I would be interested to se what exactly is causing your order to not process.

I was thinking it was because I included a Canadian card so it wasn't accepted. If you want, I can try again and check for any messages as long as I can cancel if the order does go through - I've since ordered it elsewhere.
IIRC, I got no message indicating my order was accepted or rejected.

One of two things should be happening:
1. Your card is accepted and you will be taken to the Order Status screen, showing the order as received and in process.
2. Your card is rejected (for whatever reason), taking you back to the checkout screen where you enter your card number. The reason for the rejection from the card processing service will be listed in red.

Also, if you can give me the amount of the purchase I can check our rejected orders records and see if/why it got rejected by the CC system.

Ben,
Does the online store ever plan on accepting american express cards for orders? Its a shame I can't order anything from the store as it currently stands.

I'm looking into adding AmEx and Discover to our lineup of accepted cards.
I will post more as that pans out.

If you want to buy a DH subscription and don't have the proper credit card you can always mail a check or money order to us.

?? I didn't see an option for that. If I can do that, where do I send my money?

Simply print out the Shopping Cart page and send it along with your payment to
Hero Games
One Haight Street, Suite A
San Francisco, CA 94102
I have a lot of updates to make to the FAQ... one of them is to include this procedure.

Okay, I may have a new problem now. I checked out the system again to see what the problem was but it seems the order was accepted. So I apologize for my earlier rant.
However, my FLGS finally got HD in today's shipment (see, I just knew this would happen as soon as I ordered it) and I'd prefer to pick it up there (since he did get it in for me) rather than bother with the exchange, duty and waiting period. Is there a way to cancel my order?
