At local games in the Philippines, I've gotten some small measure of interest in demo games by running the games with animated Justice League characters and some local heroes...

I think that useful teams for this purpose would be

- Animated Justice League
- Teen Titans
- Static Shock-inspired characters
- X-men

Are there any other Tv / Movie-inspired teams that might catch the interest of non-gamers that might try out a demo game?

The Fantastic Four movie is coming out soon. That's sure to generate some interest...

An easy, yet fun senario I've run is where the heroes are guarding a vehicle that's transporting a high powered villian to a supermax prison, and his former team members show up to rescue the villian.

Once, many moons ago, I ran a very silly game where PCs from the "real world" were transported to "The Land Of The 70s TV Superheroes." So Batman was a middle-aged guy in a silly outfit, Spiderman didn't talk, Wonder Woman got her magic belt taken away every five minutes, and so forth. The highlight was when "that annoying David guy" who'd been following them around turned into the Hulk. (They'd forgotten his name was David, not Bruce, on the show.)

Hadn't thought about it in years, but could make a silly con/demo game. Of course, I'm not sure how funny people under 30 might find it.

I once ran a local event that was based on the WB's Smallville. I didn't literally use those characters, but it was close enough (mine was "Littleton"). Granted, it's not a trraditional supers feel, more Teen Champions filtered through Buffy, but it was fun.

Seems difficult, particularly since most characters don't have super powers... and a few are incredibly powerful. What plot did you use?

If they're popular there, the Justice League or Teen Titans would probably be your best bet.

A classic movie monster superhero team could draw interest - Frankenstein's Monster, Vampire, Werewolf, Creature (from the Black Lagoon).

If Sky High works out, characters from that might work.

Well, I cheated a bit and made it more like late-season Buffy. Each PC had low-level powers of some kind; they just didn't run around in spandex. I had Clark (brick), Lana (martial arts & stealth), Ryan (mentalist), Pete (speedster), Chloe (also sort of a mentalist)... and I can't remember what I did for Lex, as only five players showed up. :)

Instead of "meteor rocks", I made the SF equivalent of a hellmouth, i.e., aliens landed in the town shortly before the PCs were born and were conducting genetic experiments. They died (for some reason), and their technology and "radioactive" gear is cached all over the town.

The villain of the week was a guy who found some of the alien tech and used it to create power-bequeathing drugs. He uses an alien holo-projector to convince some rogue teens that he is (literally) Professor X, and needs them to be his "X-Men". Ergo, the PCs end up battling kids who are dressed up as Nightcrawler and Storm. :)

Wacky, but fun.
