Quick question:

How appropriate is the name Wuxia for a hero? points about the character:

He is a wandering MA type hero

Has Minor Ch'I powers (powers marked with a ? are not set in stone)
*Speedster level Dex/Speed but not movement
*Extra inches in leaping (10-15" total or so)
*Healing?
*Mystic senses?
*no "flashy" powers such as Fireball
*regeneration?

Will be centered in Asia (probably Japan instead of China, but he will be Chinese)

For some reason I see him using a staff

Kind of modeling him after Kung Fu the legend continues

To quote Ninja Hero, by Michael Surbrook, "The Chinese Knight-Errant, known as a wuxia, is a wandering hero-adventurer of pre-twentieth century China." (p. 45)

That's the extent of my knowledge of the term. I don't know its connotation in current-day China (or anywhere else, for that matter).

That is the exact quote that got me thinking of it as a name for a character

It works for me. It's like calling your character "ronin," "paladin," or some such.

Of course, "wuxia" is more of a calling than anything, so you might want to amend it with something else to set yourself apart from all the other wuxia out there (example -- Marvel's "Silver Samurai" or "Black Knight").

Thank you for the comments, I always like the idea of the press giving heroes there names, so I think I will use it, can you think of any other powers to give the guy? going to consult UMA and NH some tonight for him

NINJA HERO has a lot of suggestions for such a character. Also look at the sample wuxia characters -- specifically the hero.
