One of the seminal artists of the roleplaying game industry has passed away:

As one of the oldtimers who purchased the original Advanced Dungeons and Dragons books when they first came out, I remember David's evocative imagery as one of the key elements bringing that game world to life for me. His last years were very difficult, but I'm pleased that he got to know how many people remember and love his work. From all reports he was a fine gentleman who deserved all the success he enjoyed, and more.

Thank you, Mr. Sutherland.

I certainly remember him fondly. Sutherland and Trampier (DCS and DAT, or as we used to call them, "dis and dat") were the primier artists at the beginning of it all. First Trampier disappears mysteriously and now this.

As somebody who got AD&D when it first came out, I'm sorry to hear this. But I'm glad he got to experience how much he meant to people before he passed. That's a too rare gift.
