I would like to create a great power for attacking groups. The power will be the Chain Lightning from Might & Magic 3. For those who are unfamiliar that spell will be aimed at one opponent then bounce to the closest target, then the next, and so on til it runs out of energy. I would like to have a hero who can do the same thing. How would this power be written up so that it will have the described effect? I really appreciate all assistance from the great collective minds at Herodom Assembled.

Area Effect with either selective target (you can choose who it tries to zap) or nonselective target (it tries to zap everyone in the area).

or

extra dice of EB, only to spread to affect multiple targets

Area Effect with Selective Targets sounds like the way to go. If you want to make the spell more powerful (and expensive), you could always throw on Continuous and Uncontrolled as well...to represent feeding the spell some energy and having it continue until it ran out of juice.

You could bring the cost down by tacking on some sort of Limitation that states only a certain number of targets can be hit each Phase...sort of representing that the bolt is jumping from person to person each Phase rather than just affecting the same Area.

My two cents.

Or, if you're going the phase by phase route, simply make it Indirect, where the source of the next attack is the victim of the last attack.

either summon it as a desolid "lightning elemental" that jumps around and hits people, or a very large AoE with something like radius, and selective, with the limitation that each hit is half as much (or whatever) as the previous one, and you may only hit someoen if you hit the previous target.

I belive onyxclaw tried to build this once, maybe she'll show up

Check with your GM and see if he'll allow Area of Effect with the +1 "Any Area" advantage. The book states you're supposed to create the shape at character creation, but if I were the GM, I'd allow it for the effect you're going after.
