View Full Version : Your favorite official Independent Hero of MC

Okay, we forget the Champions for a moment. *Gasp*
Those of you who have Champions Universe and Millennium City have likely noticed there are all sorts of indpendent super heroes in the City setting as well. A few are covered in great detail (Kinetik, Dr. Silverback, Cavalier and Binary Man), others aren't (We know very little of Hydro or Sai). In the Free Stuff of this very site, the HERO GENRE BY GENRE article has two sample heroes, Eagle Eye and Taurus, both stationed in MC as well so I put them on the list also.

Kinetik maybe joining the Champions officially, but until he does, I figure he should be in the running as well.

So, who is your favorite? And while we're on the subject, who have you used in your campaigns already?
I'm asking about the 'official' ones, even if you tweaked them a bit.

To me it is a toss-up between Dr. Silverback (I am a huge Beast fan), Kinetik (a great Flash fan), and Nightwind (have always liked his "Nightwing" look). I do not think I can pick just one of them. I have currently used all 3 as NPC heroes in my game, and they were all well received.

I suppose if I had to make a life or death decision between them I would pick Dr. Silverback, but it would depend on my mood during the picking. :)

I voted for Dr. Silverback, because I have a weakness for hyper-intelligent monkeys and apes.

But I was tempted to vote for Cavalier. I like him, even if Defender doesn't.

While Cavalier might have a point about Defender not having to worry about money, I have little respect for Cavalier myself.
If you're going to be a gun for hire, at least have the honesty to call yourself one and not a super hero. Which, I suppose, means Defender and I share the same opinion of Cav. :)

That said, Cavalier is an interesting and very usable character, and I plan to milk this rivalry for my PC's amusement for all it's worth.

I had to vote for Silverback too, for the same reason. No comic setting is complete without a hyper-intelligent monkey.

Silverback it is. "Show me the monkey!"

look at my avatar!

I love the Ultra-humanite from DC universe and Beast from Marvel and Dr. Silverback reminds me of them.

And everyone knows that monkeys in powered armor sell books! How many of you bought MCity because of the way kewl cover of Dr. Silverback going up against Firewing.?

It was a close call for me, I like many of them, but I think the top two were Dr Silverback (who is great to RP as an NPC when you're GMing) and Taurus, who I think would be fun to play as a Player and who has a Thing like concept going. So I went with Taurus, knowing the Doc would get lots of votes anyways. :)

Anyone else thinking this means the Zodiac 4th Ed group won't be coming back?

I had to go with Kinetik, myself. It was a toss-up between him and Doc SB. They're semi-official ties to the Champions was a plus for me... I have trouble playing the angsty, reviled hero. :D

Kinetik won out because there are so few "true" Speedsters written up for the Champions Universe (in fact, I think Kinetik is pretty much the only one). It's hard to build a Speedster without having half of the Hero fan-base crying out "CHEESE!" And Kinetik fits the bill quite nicely. :)

All the characters above, though, have merits of their own. I especially like Nightwind and Eagle Eyes, even though I probably couldn't play either of them properly to save my life! :)

Actually, I just recently realized that the Champions Universe Superheroes doesn't have either Taurus or Eagle Eye listed.

I wonder if that's an oversight, or those two aren't 'official' like I thought? Personally, I like both. Eagle Eye is very in the vein of Daredevil without being just cookie cutter about it.

So the Fed Supers don't count?
Kodiak, Teknique, and the Silver Avenger aren't represented. Of course, what's a Hermit poll without some missing options? :D

I voted for Silverback. I'm regretting not buying the Gorilla Grodd Miniclix for 50 cents now...

To which I reply :p

Besides, while no one denies their courage, they're Feds! I only have 10 precious slots on these darn things max. :)

The Doctor is definitely raking in the votes. Kinetik isn't doing half bad either. Nightwind (at this time) is at third.

I'm still waiting for someone to point out I left the heroes of Detroit's past out of the poll... Mr. X, Scarlet Shield, and Shadowboxer.

Another vote for the genius who can sleep anywhere he wants.
Re: MC however I am more than a little peeved (and those who know me can see where this is going) that Deuce, from PSI has been changed from a Australian Citizen (she was from Sydney, Australia in 4th ed) to a Californian. Now I know the new line for CU is that America is the Supers capital of the world, but gee guys can't us Aussies just have one from here? She works in the USA, isn't that enough?

You mean Australia is a country with citizens and everything? I thought it was just an island off the coast of Florida, a little past the keys maybe, but right around the corner.......

I just dont get the smart monkey thing. Ive always been confused by the appeal. I mean, its just a talking monkey. I meet 20 or 30 of those everyday; most of them hold down jobs and pay taxes.

What a SMART MONKEY! Woohoo; call Matthew Broderick and make another crappy movie with him in it. Peoples are suckers for anthropomorphized primates!

I voted for Nightwind, because he's just vigilante enough to break up the monotony of yet another 'true blue hero through and through'.

However, I like the concept of Kodiak, who was discriminated against due to his federal affiliation in this poll. Still would have voted Nightwind though so all is forgiven......;)

I will have to find the free stuff Hermit suggested before voting.
However I don't like Kinetik or Nightwind that much so it won't be them. Silverback seems to be talking in a British accent though. Hmmmm.

Where's Black Mask? I've seen her referred to in CU, and in MC, and its getting old, waiting for her stats and history to be published.
But, of the choices available, I went with the monkey.

I'm sure that you'll see her in Vibora Bay currently on the schedule for late 2004.

I went with Nightwind, myself.

It just had to be the monkey didn't it - especially as he was rescued by a British team and was taught all his sophistication whilst in England !

If I'd had a second vote, I'd go for Nightwind especially as most of my Champions roleplaying has been low level almost Dark Champions-eque.

Binary Man does nothing for me - wouldn't use him in my campaign. Cavalier / Kinetik - no strong feelings either way

Hermit,

Thanks. I was going to look for it off my own bat but if you are kind enough to post the link then I will use it.

And now I vote for Eagle Eye !

But he's not even British! ;)

Seriously, you're welcome. I've already used Eagle Eye once, and I plan to have him encounter the PCs a bit more as they hunt the 'known killer' :) This should be fun.

And yeah, I played Dr Silverback as an NPC recently, and yes, for me at least, he speaks the Queen's English, and says honour with 'u's intact. :)

I know Eagle Eye is not British but the guy is an underdog and the British like an underdog.

Thanks again Hermit.

Now I'm curious on who else voted for Taurus?
:)
