Reading through the chapter on starships and I came across somethign about Jump Drives that I want to make sure I'm reading the power modifiers correctly (I may very well be reading it correctly, but failing my "dredge up old Traveller data that I never really knew well in thr first place" roll. I'll use Jump 1 Drive as an example:

Jump 1 Drive: Teleportation 3”, MegaScale (1” = 1 lightyear;
+3 1/2) (27 Active Points); Extra Time (1 Hour, -3), 1
Charge which Recovers every 1 Week (-2 1/2), OIF Bulky (-1),
Side Effects (Side Effect affects both character and recipient
of Power’s benefits; can cause misjump or damage to ship
on failed skill roll; -3/4), Requires A Skill Roll (-1/2), Crew-
Served (2 crew; -1/4), Difficult to Operate (-1/4)
With this drive, a ship can make one jump up to 3 lightyears, then it must wait a a week before jumping again? Is this correct?

That's how it reads to me.

That's one of the things we may change in 1.0 as to the writeup... it takes one week to make the jump. So you initiate the jump ( 1hour) which takes 1 week to arrive (1ch for 1 week), and when you come out of the jump you could jump again if you have enough fuel.

Ah, I see (said the blind man). I probably would have taken a slightly different approach:

Jump 1 Drive: Teleportation 3”, MegaScale (1” = 1 lightyear;
+3 1/2) (27 Active Points); Extra Time (1 Hour, -3), Gradual
Effect (1 Week, -2), OIF Bulky (-1), Side Effects (Side Effect
affects both character and recipient of Power’s benefits; can
cause misjump or damage to ship on failed skill roll; -3/4),
Requires A Skill Roll (-1/2), Crew-Served (2 crew; -1/4),
Difficult to Operate (-1/4)

each jump number is equal to 1 parsec or 3.2 LY

So JUmp 6 is only 20 Light Years...hmmm will take an awefully long time to get anywhere?

That's one of the core concepts of the Traveller universe... it would take a year to travel from the core to the outer worlds in a Jump5 or Jump6 capable ship.
