View Full Version : 1.39b hangs on opening character file

Win2k, 768MB RAM, 1GHz AMD Thunderbird
1.39b opened with a character file loaded, and allowed me to make a slight change to it and then close it.
When I tried to open another character file, HD locked up.
I rebooted and tried opening the new file over the top of the preloaded character (instead of closing it first), same response.
NOTE: rolled back to 1.38 which fixed the problem

Mine loads just fine, except it says 1.37 as the version type. I tried re-DLing and got the same thing.

Please post the character file. I'm not showing any error in the trace.log that you posted, so I'd like to see if I can track it down in the character itself.
Just to verify: are you sure you're using 1.39b (it'll say it in the splash screen) and not 1.39? There was an issue in 1.39 with Charges and Custom Modifiers that would cause the app to hang.

Sounds like you're caching the file. Make sure that your browser's cache is cleared before you download the update. Also make sure that the update is being saved as update.jar and not update.jar.zip

Here's the character file which caused the behaviour I noted earlier

Out of curiousity, I downloaded the character, and tried to so load it into Hero Designer, and I saw some very disturbing behavior.
THD just spun out of control, eating up 100% CPU on my P4-M 2.2GHz laptop (1GB RAM). All that I could do was shut down. :(

Yeah...there's something really funky going on with Charges right now....I'm working on tracking it down and will post an update just as soon as I fix it.
The character will load eventually, but it will take a LONG time.

OK....found the issue in Charges. It was NOT what I was thinking it was (which is why this took so bloody long).
I'll get an update posted very shortly with the fix.
