View Full Version : Odd Skill Enhancer question

This just came up in a character, and while I don't expect HD to handle it, as it is an odd construct (but book legal), and I have a workaround I thought I'd see if there is an easier/more elegant solution.

The secret ID is a decent agent level character with a magical transformation to a mystic individual.

The secret ID has a number of KS's and PS's, many on 11 or less.
In super ID, the character has Scholar and JOT. So the skill enhancers take the Only in HERO ID lim - and the skills don't, and the skill bascially don't change cost, but move from 11 to full characteristic rolls.
Is there an easy way to do that in HD - have the skill enhancer have a limitation that does not apply to the skills it enhances. I know there are private adders, but this is sort of a private limitation. :)

Currnetly using lots of Custom Adders on skills, and having custon abilities named Scholar and JOT, rather than the normal way.

As I said, not expecting to have my odd build catered to, but I thought I might as well ask. :)

Note- using 2.41

Sounds like a candidate for HD v3 with its "grouping" ability. You can make two versions of the character, secret ID and mystic, and save them together. All you have to do is wait until v3 for the solution. ;)

I'm not entirely sure that it's valid/legal to have Modifiers on a Skill Enhancer (which don't affect all Skills assigned to it). Can you point me to the reference which states that such a construct is legitimate?

Yeah. Although this character is even worse. I posted her a week or so ago in the Champs forum - it''s sort of a firestorm Character with two distinct Secret IDs. :angst:

And yeah, I am looking forward to v3.

I've been a huge fan of every version of this software. I may not be a "power user" with it, but I fiddle a lot.

Only by inference. Skills can be bought as powers with limitations, and it is just that kind of idea.

When the character goes Hero ID, the skills get better is the SFX, the mechanic was to buy a skill enhancer in Hero ID, not unlike buying skill levels in Hero ID.

So honestly, it may not be "strict constructionist" legal.

You'll need to check with Steve on that one, but I suspect that it is not legal.

You can "roll your own" Skill Enhancer with a list by applying Common Adders (and a Private Adder to set the cost of the custom Enhancer). These custom Enhancers should allow both public and private Modifiers to be assigned.....but working out the rules will be up to you ;)

Yeah. I did. I know it will be OK in the game, but still curious about the formal legallity, now that the question has been asked..

And yeah, using the Private adders I think would work even better than what I have now. :)

I originally HDed the character with version 1, and just imported her.
