Ok, this one is a mistake to even try, because personalities are so darn rich and varied, but... still, what do you like playing best as a character personality wise?

I usually wind up playing the pillar. Sometimes I wanted to head some other way but I always seem drawn back to holding things up and together.

You said it. I play too many personalities to select a single type, so put me down for 'Other".

Portugeuse Sailors... that's my favorite... I promise

Put me down for Unsure Hero. He doesn't know if he's got what it takes, or if he's a little bit crazy to be putting himself in harm's way, but he's determined to use his powers to make a difference and to help people, come what may.

Oh my god. Hermit has a poll? I love polls :D .

BTW. I'm usually the Joker/Atagonist...

I checked 'Other' because I enjoy playing a number of different character types. My favorites have been a vigilante that started out Swashbuckling and became Dark/Brooding, a Pargon Hero's Hero and my current character a Psycho/Loner.

Yeah, I confess, again, as polls go, this one is kind of weak as most folks incorporate degrees of traits for personalities of characters (at least in my experience). Still, it seemed like a good one to get some thoughts going.

I find I want a character that is respected, liked, or both. I'm not too big into the 'hated by a world he must protect' gloomy type. It's just a bit too masochistic for my tastes. I want my character to have folks going "Wow... " This is escapism after all. Which is why my characters have social lives ;)

I tend to either play the joker, the Dreamer, or the Paragon. I've dabbled in them all though.

Sorry I missed the psycho. I guess I sometimes equate that with the "kills crooks because it's fun" concepts that I've seen and never cared for instead of the "madcap whacko who does right". Actually, I do have a current character who's not playing with a full deck... well, not in his head. His name's Wild Card :) No relation.

Let's see, going over my major PCs.

Thundrax... The Paragon.
Citadel... The Swaggerer (the guy who's so full of himself that puncturing his ego becomes an artform).
Baby/Centurion... The Stranger.
Johnny... The Natural Leader
Two-Fist... The Pillar.
Stuntman... The Pillar
Pan (as in Peter Pan)... A Swashbuckler/Stranger.
Omega... The Swaggerer.

I''m not sure I can answer this one, Hermit.

I tend to be a Natural Leader but I have played a mean Outsider in my day.

Ok, now for the serious answer.
Going over my PCs

Scales : Dark, Brooding, Leader
Nighthawk : Swashbuckler (and my avatar)
Calico : Psycho.
Spectrum : Paragon of virtue, though damn easy with the crowd she hangs with
Ice Pirate : Very Swashbuckler
Roadrunner : Hard to say
Vetali : Pillar
Scavenger : Joker
Ghost : Fun loving
Mr. Impervious : The Pillar
Blazer : Rebel
Tarn : Pillar
Triad : Three personalities, but probably Stranger would fit
Ulrik : Stranger
Andromeda : Paragon of virtue/Psycho

And then there's all the non super characters:

Tristan : Leader/Dreamer
Antonio : Leader/Merchant/Swashbuckler
Lee Larson : Viking Swashbuckler
Kron : Viking
Angelo : Swashbuckler
Zagora : Pillar
Joe: Warhammer FRPG; going insane
Selene : Fun loving
Dolf : Follower
Zepher : Fun Loving pixie (Invisible 8' foot pixie due to an ingame magical accident...)
Rex : Dark, Brooding

Well, the two I labeled Psychos are quite different from each other.
<img src="http://www.herogames.com/forums/attachment.php?s=&postid=4686">
Calico is a highly trained human combined with some cat like creatures. One of her disads is "Toys with prey" In play she never killed, though she said one villian was already dead when a good paramedics roll could of saved him. She also forgot about an agent she hung off a ledge.

Andromeda is a just a bit over the edge. She started off her career quite sane, but one GM pushed her over the edge. She had walked into an aircraft hanger where her dad was being held hostage. The GM ruled that her electrical FF set off all the avation fuel in the hanger killing her dad and the viper agents.
In her grief she zoomed into space used her FTL and wound up coming back to earth for a Dreadstar/Bladerunner/Rollerball type campaign. She eventually got sent back, but tends to be a bit unpredicatable and tends to heavily enforce CVKs.

Both PCs are now being used as NPCs with slightly different motives and background, but similar personalities.

Neither could I. :) No worries, it's good to bang some ideas around. Swaggerer eh? I had not thought of (or had forgotten) that one.

I find myself, when I play (which is rare... I usually GM) ending up in the PIllar or Natural Leader, role. I don't always want to play this part, but it's often tough to find someone else in the gaming group who will fill that role. You can find some great followers... but someone has to be decisive, pay attention to the game, and keep things on track. When I play the fun-lover or loner... no one else steps up to the plate... and the games spiral into confusion. If I don't step in to lead or play the dependable ones, we get nowwhere.

It's very frustrating.

Doh! Forgot to mention that Sam Bell did both of those. The actual character poses are taken from a couple comic characters: Dagger and Hellcat. Sam did freehand at times, but he could whip out something from a pose in 30 minutes. And some of you may be able to recognize where Andromeda's costume originated from.

I'm still working on getting the ~300 character poses cleaned up and posted somewhere.

Recently, the character type I've been drawn to over and over again is one I like to call The Knucklehead.

The Knucklehead likes to fight, and is usually pretty good it it - strong, with some sort of combat training. Usually a brick.
The Knucklehead enjoys fighting but not necessarily killing. He's kind of like an enthusiastic bar brawler.
The Knucklehead is easy-going. He is usually prepared to go with the flow on most issues. He is generally heroic, but not averse to shady behaviour, unless it is blatantly EEEE-VIL.
The Knucklehead is a show off who is proud of his fighting prowess. He likes to use flashy maneouvres which may seem more at home in a Jackie Chan film or a pro-wrestling ring.

A typical exchange:
Patron: "I want to hire you to clean out a band of werewolves terrorising the roads..."
Knucklehead: "Werewolves? Cool. Never fought werewolves before. Lemme at 'em."

Knuckleheads work across a wide variety of games and are a fun sandwich to play.

I like odd bits really,
like Rogue's issues with ehr power.. things like that. I like getting into the persoa of who I play and find something that makes them really stand out.

I tend to be drawn to sort of a meta-type, the archetype-breaker. I like to take a personality archetype, throw in a major twist, and reason out the ramifications of said twist.

For instance, the character currently kicking around in my head, looking for a game to play in, is a hyper-intelligent, calm, rational thinker who, now that he's had a taste of flying about in a suit of power armor and trading energy bolts with supercriminals, is developing into a thrill-junkie.

My character Zl'f I would currently categorize as "The Eternal Innocent," although some of that innocence is slowly eroding and I suspect she'll ultimately seque into "The Swashbuckler". She never lets the evil she sees convince her the world is essentially not a wonderful place overall. While she gets angry when she sees evil, ultimately her good humor and effervescent personality prevail.

I like the Fun Loving Swashbuckler type. I've never been good at planning, I'd rather just remeber the goal and wing it. My characters come out like that too.

I'm really enjoy playing characters who don't understand the culture they are emersed in. It is fun to be playing a smart character who strikes everyone as dumb because they don't know certain expressions or how things work.

I chose the jokester. I just can't help myself. I always have to crack wise. Of course when it's time for combat I do get rather serious, and tend to gravitate towards the leader role. If I had to name one character who best symbolizes what I usually played it would be Xander Harris from "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," or Spider-Man - if that helps.

For me, it has to be the Dark, Brooding type character. You know, the guy who didn't want powers, wants to mind his own buisness, but got sucked into a fight where his own powes either hurt, or killed someone. Now he lives each day attempting overcome his own guilt by fighting against that which caused the circumstances of the injured/dead person.

Not really a tragedian, since most of his grief comes from not forgiving himself as opposed to continued outside forces. Basically, his quest is learning to forgive himself, which then allows him to morph into a more light hearted type of character.

I find that the personalities listed in the poll are really more like roles. "Your favorite role to play" sounds less exciting but more accurate.

I play many and varied personalities (I'm a regular GM so I'm used to it), but the role I most enjoy is the Pillar. I like being the support for whomever gets elected leader of the group. I like being the guy who preps the plane for take-off while everybody else is bashing the bad guys. I like being the guy who yells "Stop Destroyer!" to the others then dives headlong into the reactor core to stop the meltdown with his bare hands while they clean his clock. Having been on the other side of the screen, I know how important it is to have a Pillar in the group and I relish the role. I like being inside the group helping everyone (GM included) to have more fun.

Second to that would be the fun-loving jokster.

I'm surprised theTrickster isn't on the list. My favorite character is the one with so many intricate layers and a penchant for manipulating the scenario in ways undreamed (not against the other players) The trickster is not necessarily comic relief. The historical Puck Robin or even Shakespeare's Oberon are perfect examples of tricksters

And speaking as a GM... this is really good to hear. The pillar or support role is SO nice to see from players. In my game, I've got a great Leader... I've got excellent brooding type... I've got the joker type... but the greatest pillar I've ever run, left our group when he moved with his fiance to Philly.

Tim... here's to you, man! Gearhead was a the greatest "Pillar" ever, in the RDU. He died to save the world... and he is missed. (So are you man...)

Interesting again that we have a breakdown across the board.

I played a variety including the team leader and founder of the group on occassion. All depends on what was happening

My personal fave personality to play is the "darkly powerful being who loves to play with his abilities" (sorry, I can't describe it any better). I like the person who has some abilities that look purty; effectiveness is secondary if I can make the shadows flow like smoke to form my body, or my eyes glow as your lighter goes out. I like the "special effects" powers; Change Environment has supplanted Images from it's #1 spot. I want to have my foes (and friends sometimes) wigged out of their minds at the idea of what I can (and will) do.

I suppose that makes me a swashbuckler in some ways; it just seems I want a jumpback and a "Jeezus!" over a "Duuude!" and a thumbs-up.

Perhaps the approparite term would be "Creepshow"?
