Did you ever get your submissions guidelines format export template done? I thought I saw you saying it was done and off to Ben, but I haven't seen it. Thanks! :)

Thanks! :) Yes I finished it last week, but Ben still hasn't posted it. He sent me an email and asked if it was replacing any others, and that was the last I heard. Perhaps he either got swamped with work or I confused him. ;)
I don't have it on this computer, but I'll go ahead and access my server at home and pull it down, and then post it up here for you. It will take a couple minutes. I have to negotiate the firewall here at work... stay tuned.

I'll send another email to Ben to see when he is going to post it, but until then here it is. I was able to get it to the point that it doesn't require any macros, but you should read the description in HD when you select it for any last minute changes and usage info. The one thing that it doesn't do is compensate for blank lines in various lists. For example, when you create skills you are supposed to separate the CSLs etc from the other skills with a blank line. That line will appear in the export as a tab, but that's all which to me is nothing.

After you use it, let me know if you find anything odd or not working right. Also, if you would like to see anything added or even additional templates, let me know. I also have the Character Brief Template, but it still has "issues" due to the way the martial arts tags work, and blank lines, and finally it includes all the Descriptors for disads since a separate tag was never created. So there is some post editing for that template. Enjoy!

*EDIT* See new updated template below.

Hi Durnin: Got a dumb question...

Is this export template the "true" writer guideline format (i.e. the doc written by Steve, i.e. it can be sent to Hero for publishing) OR is this format made so that is dumps output that looks like the books?

See what I mean? I sometimes get emails on this as the template I posted eons ago is the former but most folks want the later... ;)

Thanks Durnin!

John, it's the "true" writers' guidelines format. I agree it's confusing. Geoff's (excellent) templates should probably be called "Publication Format" or something. :)

(thanks) I'll see if I can work on that name change for v2. :)

You guys are just to cool. I want the ability to have my output in complete writers submission form, but in truth I use Geoff's wonder forms all the time.

I agree that Geoff's forms should be called Publication Format and think that is a great name for it. Self-explanatory.

Just out of curiousity, how do the WG Submissions differ from the publications? I've been so immersed in the WG that I can't tell any difference when I look at the publications. I need to go on vacation I think...

The straight Writer's Guideline 1.1 format uses tabs not tables. Thus the actual rtf looks like it is all over the place but cleans up when actually printed by Dave/Andy. Sorry...I can't come up with a better description. I think I could dig up a sample if you are interested. :)

The template I did long ago is in the format needed for publishing There are also some other nit picky things that I can't recall as it has been 2 months since I was forced to use it. ;)

HEY! Your template is correct! Another of the ones I tried used tables and such. This one works pretty good! :D

You know what...I might have found a bug in your template. I have a character where there is a name on a Perk. Specifically I have a Repuation with a name. The name appears with HTML italic tags ( < I > and < /I > ) instead of rtf italics. Here is the output...
2 < i >Vigilante:< /i > Reputation (Those who follow the news or run on streets; 11-) +1/+1d6

FYI...GREAT WORK! Writer everywhere will be chanting your name...Durnin...Durnin...

I think that is what I'm missing. Coming from a reprographics background way back when, we would set all tab stops and such before we printed per the writer's format. I think now I just look past none formatting and picture the final product in my head. Thanks!

I worked long and hard to make that thing work so I'm glad it is meeting with approval. I had to convience Dan to throw in a few tags to make it all work right, and with his guidence (I was getting stuck on the way things looped) I was able to produce the end result.

Really? I will look into that right away and see what is going on.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH! That's the kind of feedback I'm looking for.

Ok...now it is doing this...
2 Vigilante: < i >Vigilante:< /i > Reputation (Those who follow the news or run on streets; 11-) +1/+1d6

Here are my source files and output files...maybe these will help figure it out. :(

Ok. Dan IS the Man!

He is going to "fix" it in the next update. It isn't broken per se. It is just the way the export works. Once I hear back from him to make sure I understand it correctly, I will update the WG export template, and you will be the first to get it.

:D Wow!! I'm in the same group as Dan now!! :D

Here you go. Let me know if you encounter any other oddities. Hopefully you won't since Dan is doing any more non-bug fixes. It's a good thing you discovered that when you did!

Thanks again!

Well, as fate would have it, I discovered an easily overlooked error in the template. It isn't putting an extra line break between powers and the next group. I have that fixed now. Here is the *sigh* next update, it is version 2.5 for those playing along with the home game:

*EDIT* I apologize... I think it is now perfect... hopefully...

Found another slight bug in that END was following Notes. It's now fixed. Version 2.6.

Oh and Ben has it uploaded as well... soon...

Hey all. I found another slight error regarding the background tags. It is now corrected. Here is the updated template, and I've sent it into Ben for posting.
