View Full Version : Character name help needed
Lord Mhoram

While working at the comic shop today, I mused my way into a new character. Here is the background and basic power structure - I'm looking for a superhero name. My mind has one, but there are small reasons I don't want to use it, and I cannot think beyond it (I'll post what it is later and why, after some others have posted, don't want to influence suggestions). Modern day superhero.
A modern Chemist/alchemist had bio material from an angel of wrath and a succubus, and created a test tube baby with those and human DNA. The child grew up in a small complex devoted to her upbringing. She had both angelic and demonic powers and appearance. Through some circumstance I'm not sure of yet, she was rescued/broke out into the modern world - she is aware of modern society, but mostly through reading about it, rather than experiencing it. She is something of an innocent (but not completely - her demonic ancestery showed up with succubus kind of leanings intact). She wants to do what is right and good, and uses both her angelic and her demonic powers to do the right thing, and will be taken under the wing of a very knowedgable mystic.
Her powerset:
Increased characterstics across the board - around 30s for most physical stats, high stun high end.
Angelic powers include wings (light and feathery), a FF (that gives the classic angelic glow), a sword made out of rightous flame, some Life support and regen, and some healing.
Demoic VPP that only allows attacks and such - bascially hellfire (EB), tormet of souls (Drain Stun) and such kind of things. Most things will be damage inducing (not much in the way of transforms or mental powers other than a mind blast or illusions of pain and suffering)
Her look - Extremely attractive female (Think Starfire both in shape and amount of material for costumery) - Feathered angelic winds, peaceful expression - angelic glowing white eyes - demonic horns on forehead, maybe a spikeytail - not sure about that, and cute little fangs. - Ie a being with demonic and angelic ancestory.
For a name I am looking for something that refers to both sides of her nature - but with an emphasis on the side of good - after all she is a Heroine not a Villianess.
Thanks in advance.
(And yes I come up with convoluted and odd characters to play - Meeb, Ballistic, Blackcat....)

Celeste Morningstar? Too porno. Um... I'll think on it. In the mean time, move to Connecticut, because this character would fit right in at Team F-up! (Keep Sundays open).

Burning Seraph
or
Angela Red
(if she has a red barbed tail or red skin showing a bit more of her demonic nature this works more effectively.)

Thanks for the help, and keep 'em coming.
Now that there are some posts, I'll posts what I came up with.
Her demonic pool manifests in SFX of fire (almost exclusively).
So my mind said: Angelfire.
The thing I don't really like is that is the name of the new D&D minitures expansion. Other than the associations there (which bug me) I like that name.... but.....
*sigh*

It sounds a little bit like she's trying, like most people, to reach the point where the world "makes sense"--the universe, her role in it, the nature of her soul, and so on.

from the description, how about Sacrilicious :D
*swat*
Yeah. She has a little bit of ... lets say less than strict codes about physical intimacy... something I have never really played in a character before- most of my characters are sexless (Meeb) or very straitlaced (Cat or Ballistic)

Every name I come up with sounds like an 80s metal band. Use Angelfire, just don't play with anyone who plays D&D. This character is more interesting than anything WOC has ever put out anyway.

Slutty Goodgirl
(pedantic moment: Demons and Angels would be genetically identical, if they had DNA at all. Their powers, if any, would be identical as well, with those of the Angels augmented by their connection to G_d. With no connection to G_d, she's effectively one of the half-mortal "giants and monsters" from the Old Testament. End pedantic moment.)
Fangarella
Fallen
Blasphemy
Lillith
Genesis or Jenney Six (my favorite, from Gensis 6:6)
There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.
Anaki (from Numbers 13:33)
And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.

Why not Limbo...or perhaps just Purgatory?
Fallen Angel?
Darklight?
Seraph?
Scorne?
OK...I'm all tapped out on this one...
One last one...

Lucifer is usually translated to "Morning Star"
Perhaps "Mourningstar" might have a nice dual meaning, though it might sound a bit to angsty for the character...I had a demonic character named Mourning Frost once, but it worked for his miserable cold and cursed background.

Conscience
(but I think Jenny Six is pretty neat too.)

Nephlim,
I believe is a bibilical word describing a being of of both Angelic and Demonic heritage (course I could be way off on this, might be Angelic/Human, that caused The Big "G" to flood the earth and wipe out their exictance)
but anyway works as a name and is used as a race in Shadowbane that slightly resembels what you are describing.
Or if you want more than a one word name
FLAME SERAPH

Sounds like this is all about duality. To that end... Equinox
Legion has a nice William Peter Blatty feel to it. (So does Heretic come to think of it.)

Simply put... Gabriel. She is, after all, the Angel of Fire, and the Herald of the Heavenly Host.

Stop pedanism now! :)
Yeah, although, in game we usually go with the idea that the place that the being has been living in has shaped and changed DNA - so a demon and an angel would be different down to that level - and the fact that the alchemist that was her father used magic to tie the powers of heaven to her angelic side, and the powers of hell to her demonic side.
Call it comic book theology/physics. :)

Divine Darkness
Angel Demonicus

Auto-Da-Fe' (look it up all to do with inquisition & punishment by flame)
Hot Wings :D
Horny Holy Hell-Ho :sneaky:
Saint Sinner
Sin Eater
I'm sorry I give up now I am still cracking up over 'Horny Holy Hell-Ho' I must be tired to laugh so profoundly at my own jokes :idjit:
Good luck with the name, are there any more threads like this? I'm thinking of starting a 'What original hero/villain name that you've created are you most proud of' thread! Or is there one already?

In Genisis, before Gawd I Am forbid it, angels consorted with human women (in the Biblical sense... ) and the offspring were called, "Nephilim." All of the Nephilim were extremely exceptional people, and universally became heroes, chiefs, and other entities of greatness.
I also like the ring of the word, "Seraph." It's conjures strong burning-angle images.
Going with the metaphysical dualism theme, "Zoroastra," sounds feminine, and harkens to the ancient roots of the concept of warring Good and Evil in Western Culture/Religion.
Thinking along the lines of a superhero monicker:
Witch Wing
Thermonatrix
Phosphorus Fatale
Femme Fell

"Avenging Angel" sounds okay (as do many of the other suggestions so far). The angel Michael is usually shown with a firey sword so perhaps Michaela might work.
