Hey gang,

First I would like to thank you guys for the reports that you've sent as well as the way you've handled the Trolls that have appeared lately.

In the future, please email me directly to report any Trollish and/or stupid, childish, immensely immature, utterly unacceptable posts. The REPORT THREAD function ends up emailing ALL board Admins and Steve and Darren would prefer to not have their inboxes flooded with these reports. They'd rather *I* deal with them... and I don't blame them.

So if more Trolls appear, please just shoot me an email instead of using the REPORT THREAD function.

Thanks again.

Duely noted, and thank you for your time.

Plonk--er, I mean thanks and will do!

Thanks, Ben. :D I'll keep this instruction in mind for any future offenses.

BTW, is there anything to be done about individual posts in otherwise useful threads? This latest troll made a pretty disgusting post in one of the Star Hero threads, but I'd rather not sacrifice the thread (which I'd like to be able to go back and consult from time to time) for just one bad post.

Email me the link to the thread and I will go in and manually delete the text.

Here I come, acid and napalm all ready for the "Great Troll BBQ", and I missed all the excitement!

Your board-moderation skills are to be envied. Both fast and thorough. I tip my hat to you.

Yes, and I've taken care of it. Thanks!

Is there any way to make this topic sticky... or perhaps post it somewhere we can easily see it? Maybe a BBS Rules section on the web-site, or something similar where things like this can be posted? Or maybe placed in the BBS FAQ?

I'm just concerned about someone new coming around wanting to report an abusive post, and hitting the "Report Thread" button.

Just lookin' out for ya. :D

Or a better idea, see about changing the report function so it just goes to ben?

I'm going through the board admin screens and am looking for a way to change who the REPORT THREAD function goes to. It seems to be pretty limited in that it automatically sends to all Admins and I can't change it.

When I get back from Ireland, I'll look into editing the PHP file that drives the "report this post..." process.

Why do it the right way when you can kludge? Just make sure the Report Troll email has distinctive features and Steve and Darren can then tell their email software to trash all trollb reports.

We don't want to necessarily trash all troll reports, though.

What I want to stop is 37 people all sending me the same troll report, or someone sending a separate troll report for every troll post. Right now it's too easy for all of us Admins to get our mailboxes flooded to no good purpose.

Heck, even if it were changed so that before people could report a troll, they got a message stating, "Before you report this, have you considered trying just ignoring the troll completely?" would be a big help -- since that's by far the best way to respond to 'em. ;)
