View Full Version : Turakian Specific Weapons

Got a few questions regarding the specific Turakian weapons mentioned in TTA - couldn't find some referenced in the book or on the boards.

The Silver Branch dagger is described under the assassin pkg deals, so I've got that one.

And Bulgan's character description talks about his Yahgahn, which I assume is the REALLY curvy blade his got in his illo.

That leaves the Ophelite Sun-Axe (presumably an Axe sacred to Ophel's Clergy...)
The Ashurana, and the Barisi. What are the last 2? The AP and Throwable properties of the Barisi lead me to believe it is some sort of stilleto-type weapon. The Ashurana sounds like some sort of Katana-esque blade, but I thought I'd verify. Any notes anywhere in TTA about any specific locations these weapons are favored? Does WF:Common Melee cover them? Or are they "Exotic" enough to warrant their own familiarity category?

Thanks!

I'll try to help... The TA Melee Weapons Table is on TA p204.
The Orphelite Sun-Axe is detailed on TA p179/277
Ashurana is on TA p112, 203-204 ('lions-jaw sword'... I guess there's supposed to be an illo on p204 but I can't pick it out of the crowd, it's just a serrated sword more or less)
Barisi is on TA p187, 203-204 ("Ventati dagger", but more like a short sword)
As much as I hate to hear this myself at times, the treatment of WF's and whatnot is up to you. I would say that if the weapon is distinctive enough to have its own write up it could be justified as to have it's own WF category. However if you believe that a sword is a sword is a sword then it could be covered under 'blades'. Vague? Yes, I know. The Orphelite Sun-Axe and Silver Branch Dagger are distinctive. The OSA has an unusual shape and the SBD has an extra (non-standard) compartment that can change the handling and the weight thereby effecting balance... thus I'd give the OSA and SBD their own special weapon classes.

FYI, I found these page references by using the Encyclopedia Turakania that is found in the Free Stuff section.

I hope this helps...

Awesome. Thanks, Labrat. I figured I'd be house ruling on whether they required their own WF or not. I think the SBA Dagger definitely will, and given its unusual shape, so will the Ophelite Sun Axe. The rest don't strike me as being overly "exotic."

Silly me. I've got the Encyclopedia Turakania sitting in my FH-GM Notes folder and didn't even think to look there after I used it to determine the correct pronounciation of Fyleritoltiradalyrunorionasirom.

Thanks again.

Glad to help. The one gripe that I have about TA is the disperseness of it. If it weren't for the Almanac I'm afraid that 75% would go unused or unreferenced. I'm working on even further refining some cross-reference material and tables using Excel. I already submitted a Westerland realm digest and I plan on updating that file further.
