Star Wars.

Couple of days ago I was watching some of the Star Wars DVD's that I have and it got me to thinking.

What would your Champions characters think of the original trilogy. Would they like or hate them? Who would be their favorite movie and character.

Oh, and try and tell me they wouldn't see them, hell even Baron Von Darien would have seen it by now.

Soulbarb would probably think the SFX look cheesy, and prefer the second trilogy. On the other hand the first trilogy was over several years before she was born. After seeing Episode 4, she'd think Luke was awfully naive, Han Solo was awfully brainless, and Leia... what's with the hair? At least she's not a total wimp. Her favourite characters would probably be the ones she recognized from Episodes I-III. She'd probably cheer for Vader, though she would want for him to ultimately refuse to accept his role as nothing more than a monster.

Astro-Knight: An astronaut, turned super hero wearing alien tech? Of course he's seen it! While he probably would laugh at all the inaccuracies science wise (Screaming Starships in space where sound couldn't be etc) he'd enjoy it. Favorite character? I think he'd like Luke. Farmboy turned master jedi etc and very noble. Favorite movie out of the trilogy? Return of the Jedi, it has a happy ending, action, redemption, and Leia's in that outfit.

Gaze: Empire Strikes Back would be his favorite. It's the best of the three in his view. He'd actually be torn on his favorite character. Over all his favorite in the trilogy would be Han, but he'd have some empathy for Lando who tried to do what he saw as 'best' and ended up blowing it big time. Besides, Lando has style.

Max Thunder: No preference for which movie, though he might favor the first. He'd be 'okay' with the films, but not crazy about them. Jedi tricks loses punch compared to dealing with Olympian Gods. No favorite character, though in his godlier moments he might consider Leia a "comely wench"

Recluse: Hey, he would love a bit of escapism. Definitely the first movie, the unedited version. No Greedio shooting first darn it! Han, Han is cool.

Deth Sturm: Stuff's for geeks

But that's real! It's the best way for the advanced computers to transmit a flood of information to humans that evolved in an atmosphere. In a heartbeat we can tell threat direction and get a rough idea of distance. Besides, the ships are thousands of miles apart from each other, only detectable by super-tech sensors.

(Oh - the "windshields" are holographic flat panel displays.)

Edit - I mean the computer generates the sound inside the ship.

Jessica - doesn't own or watch TV, hasn't been to the movies since the late 60s. She hasn't seen it, sorry. She's nostalgic for the 40s and 50s as well, a bit anachronistic that way, and actively avoids much of modern culture.

Silence - just got to this reality, so while she didn't see it in the theater she has plenty of time (never sleeps) to absorb modern culture which facinates her. So when she does get to seeing it she would enjoy it but be a bit perplexed by it since it would obviously be dated a bit and that would put it out of context for her. Once it was explained what time frame it was made in she'd have an easier time. She would enjoy the first one best, Obi-wan would probably be her most liked character.

None of which is mentioned -in- the movie IIRC.

Millennium believes he is the living incarnation of The Hero With a Thousand Faces. He carries a lightsaber (which he only uses to missile deflect, and which is a prop, not a focus, he can missile deflect without it). His identifying quote is "I am the Hero with a Thousand Faces. I am Odyssus, and Osirus, and Luke Skywalker. You can never defete me, for even if I am killed I shall be reborn." Take a wild guess.

Cheeta Chick flick.

Iron Will Is a telekinetic living in a respirator that keeps him alive. Has a strange identification with Vader that makes him willing to forgive the many, many, many, many many scientific errors.

Snow Leopard watches through half closed eyes, counting the many ways she could kill Ewocks.

Dolphin recognizes "The Force" as Zen with a new coat of paint. Would love to have a long conversation with Yoda.

Fore Eyes: Can see how Lucas used the Hero's Journey trope to structure his story arc and thinks that's kind of cool. Thinks Luke in 'Jedi' (with the black outfit) is cooler than farmboy Luke.
Sees 1-3 and thinks Lucas should be shot for ruining a pefectly good trilogy by rehashing it's plots in the 'prequel'. Hates Jar Jar with a vengence, thinks the C3PO/R2D2 pairing should have been the 'comic relief' in all the movies. Thinks that anyone with Precog should be more logical about it than Anakin.

Hardball: Liked the first ones when they came out. Sometimes pretends his baseball bat is a light saber in private (would never admit it though), thinks Han Solo is a freakin' legend. Wanted to date Leia, and was very happy when she and Solo got paired up in 'Jedi'.
None of the prequals dealt with Han Solo so he thinks they suck, apart from the cool lightsaber battles.

Caress: Pieces of patriarchal claptrap. Why is it Luke that has to 'save their father'? Leia's a better person all round than him, she should have been the 'new Jedi' not that twit of a farm-boy.
The only thing that redeams the movies is that in all of them the main female characters are a whole lot cooler than the males (Leia was the best thing in 4-6 and Padame was so much cooler than any of the men in 1-3, that she chose that sop Anakin is beggers belief.)

Uncle Slam has undoubtedly seen it when it first came out. He's not a big watcher of modern films, but he'd find it amusing how much Vader and the others posture JUST LIKE real life supervillains. He'd think Lucas must have had a superhero consultant on the pic. Favorite: Ben Kenobi, of course.

Anthem is too young to have seen it first run, but she's likely seen it on TV since. She'd think it was fun, but the special effects wouldn't be all that special these days. Favorite: She'd identify with Luke, and therefore Ben Kenobi would be her favorite character :)

Audra Blue has seen them and while she identifies with R2D2 (especially the way he links directly into the Death Star), her favorite would be Leia, who reminds her of an old friend.

Since my campaign is set in 2056, my PCs probably prefer the newer films (Star Wars Episode X: An Old Hope, Star Wars Episode XI: Sith Happens, and Star Wars Episode XII: Roller Wookie Kill Fiesta!) although the first nine films are available on Vid Cube.

Glarg: He doesn't understand drawings and photos! To him, those are flat objects oddly colored. The idea they're representers of 3D things is non-understandable. Movies? Flat things that change color. The sounds? Heck, phones talk to him, why not TVs/Movie houses?

Thena: Interesting stories, fairly well played out. But why take 3 movies to do it? When she considers the years between the original releases (LONG before she got to Earth, BTW), she's amazed anyone went back for the second one, much less the third. Stories are supposed to be told (or acted out, for stage) in one sitting. That's because it's not a story w/o a beginning, middle, and end.

Panweesio: Doesn't live in a reality where those movies happened (this came up in play, BTW). If he ever sees them, and is told how well known they are here, he'd study them for Images/Mental Ill.s to hit targets with. "That Bantha is wonderful. I'll use him on the next bad guy I stop; even away from this Earth it would make a good bogey." ;)

Zl'f: Prior to her flight from Russia in 2000, the original Star Wars film was the only science fiction movie she'd ever seen. However, since Elena's MidGuard teammate (and close friend) Silhouette is a certified science fiction junkie (KS: Science Fiction 11-), Elena has sat through many SF movies while Silhouette explains in great detail why each movie is good, not so good, or horrible and why they are scientifically inaccurate. (That's the inherent danger of watching SF movies with an astrophysicist) However, the frequent Saturday afternoons watching SF movies have become something of a bonding thing since neither woman is into chick flicks. Elena retaliates by dragging Silhouette off horseback riding from time to time. :p

Justicar: As with most young men, Justicar has seen all of the Star Wars films. He's not big on SF; in general he prefers action flicks although as a Catholic priest he seldom goes to films anymore. Too many 'R' movies out these days. The last film he went to was "The Passion of the Christ."

Adonis would most likely appreciate all of the films and each version of the film on its own merits. He would enjoy the original version of the first trilogy for what it was and with an understanding of the limitations each of them were made under. He would understand and respect Lucas’s desire to make the films as close to his original vision as the new technology would allow, while probably disagreeing with some of the specific choice Lucas made. The only character that Adonis would really dislike is the Emperor. Megalomaniacs kind of push Adonis’s buttons., particularly, ones that try to corrupt others into helping them in their world/solar system/galaxy/universe/trans-universe conquests.
