Yasuaki's mother died when he was very young, and his father moved back to Japan. With one of the worlds leading experts in robotics for a father, Yasuaki was surrounded by all nature of robotic toys and design prototypes. Even as a preschooler, Yasuaki showed a natural genius for robotics, taking apart his toys and rebuilding them, and creating toys of his own in his fathers lab; in fact several of his own designs were refined for commercialization by his father and sold to toy manufacturers.
Yasuaki grew up to a towering (in Japan) 6', with slightly wavy brownish black hair, and dominated his prep school's basketball league before going on to college. After some discussion he was sent to attend MIT at age 17 and he graduated 4 years later with multiple engineering degrees. More concerned with practical application and light-years beyond his instructors in the realms of robotics Yasuaki did not pursue a doctorate and returned home to Japan. Meanwhile his father Yochiro was fighting off both cancer and a buy-out by his co-founder Uriel Styx's oldest son Damien after Uriel's failing health forced him to turn over control to Damien.
Yasuaki took up the reins of power from his ailing father and managed to seize control of Robotyx Inc in 1997 after a 2 year struggle, finally gaining enough support among the board members to defang Damien Styx. During this time Yochiro passed away, leaving Yasuaki as his only heir. However the death of Yochiro left Yasuaki slightly unhinged. Orphaned by the deaths of both his parents Yasuaki became obsessed with the ephemeral nature of organic matter and the inherent instability of the living state. Robots didn’t age, or suddenly die. They could be repaired when damaged. Their actions could be predicted. They were not random, inexplicable entities that could not be trusted. They were clearly in a superior state of existence.
In 1999 he perfected work on his masterpiece, the Cyberlithonic Brain, which can be programmed with an exact binary representation of a human brain's physical structure. This technology allows the 'downloading' of a person’s thought processes into a Cyberlithonic Brain and once this input has been compiled/interpreted into a runable state any given input will result in the Cyberlithonic Brain responding exactly as the copied person 83% of the time. The other 17% of the time the Cyberlithonic Brain's enhanced efficiency generally results in a more appropriate response than the original subject will arrive at on their own. Further, a Cyberlithonic Brain learns from its mistakes, and can amend its processes with new experiences. It is a fully trinary reactive learning Artificial Intelligence, with even the ability to replicate emotion via the storage of multiple response options dependent upon "mood" if desired.
Yasuaki, driven by his obsession, made a drastic decision that defies comprehension by sane minds. With his own personal funds he secretly established several robotics labs in both Japan and America. Meanwhile, he built a series of hyper advanced robotic bodies designed to be operated by a Cyberlithonic Brain, and when he was happy with the results he downloaded a copy of his brain, hooked it up to an active robotic body, and finally placed his biological body into cryogenic stasis. Tomonaga Yasuaki ceased to exist and Mr. Roboto was born with the skills, knowledge, memory and personality of Yasuaki plus 1 driving imperative: to roboticize all of humanity.
With the sudden disappearance of Yasuaki, Damien Styx once again pushed to take control of Robotyx Inc. Without opposition he accomplished this easily, but mystified by the sudden disappearance of his rival for power and intrigued by suspicious diversions of resources noted in company records prior to this disappearance, he investigated the circumstances leading up to Yasuaki’s vanishing act. Unbeknownst to the world at large, Damien Styx was not just an ambitious business man but also a vigilante who maintained not 1 but 2 heroic identities, 1 as the mutant known as the "Disruptor" and another as the power armored "Green Knight". After some snooping, Damien uncovered one of Yasuaki's secret labs in North Detroit outside Millennium City, and went in to investigate it in his persona as the Green Knight. He was overpowered by robotic defenders, and afterwards Mr. Roboto flew in to see what its robotic minions had captured. Unmasking the Green Knight, Mr. Roboto recognized its great rival, Damien Styx! Mr. Roboto downloaded Damien's mind into a Cyberlithonic Brain and put his body into cryogenic storage.
Using the Cyberlithonic copy of Damien, with appropriate programmatic overrides combined with advanced synthetic flesh technology it had recently mastered based on a new compound produced by PetraDyne Chemicals called GYX-5, Mr. Roboto made a robotic replicant of Damien Styx. Mr. Roboto sent this fake Damien Styx back into the world to run Robotyx the way Mr. Roboto wants it be run. Deconstructing the Green Knight armor suit, Mr. Roboto also constructed several robotic versions of the Green Knight to serve its own purposes. Over the next several months Mr. Roboto managed to secretly put all the members of the Robotyx board of directors on ice and replace them with replicant robots, using the replicant Damien to entrap them. Each replicant was equipped with a programmatically restrained Cyberlithonic Brain with their personalities and memories intact, which allowed them to blend in with those close to the originals and also continue to do their jobs, while still being firmly under Mr. Roboto's control. Subsequently, Robotyx Inc turned its considerable resources to secretly producing a large number of replicant bodies in plants staffed by replicants. With each passing week, more and more people connected to Robotyx Inc either directly or via immediate family were kidnapped and replaced with replicants bearing Cyberlithonic Brains imprinted with their minds. With plants in both Japan and America, this resulted in entire towns being replaced with robotic replicants loyal to Mr. Roboto in some locations.
In 2001 PRIMUS ran afoul of one of these “company towns” at Little Creek, Montana, where a target for replication escaped his captors and managed to make contact with PRIMUS. An investigative team was sent in to check out the ludicrous sounding story, and came back to report that they had found nothing. The team had of course been replaced by replicants. This was discovered shortly by the intervention of Wirehead, a sanctioned superhuman with ties to PRIMUS that had been brought in for his technical expertise regarding robotics. The 2 replicants resisted capture but were destroyed by Wirehead and then deconstructed. Wirehead was amazed by the level of advancement he found in the replicants and declared that the technology used to create them was 30 or more years beyond anything anyone else was doing, particularly the Cyberlithonic Brains. He later published a scientific paper on the subject in the World Ledger of Practical Engineering, detailing to some degree the advanced articulation, power source, and circuitry he found. This article lead to most experts in the fields related to robotics recognizing Mr. Roboto as the preeminent expert in the world. Mr. Roboto also believes that technology used in the more recent Minute Men by the IHA was designed using some of his circuit designs as set forth by Wirehead in the Ledger.
Wirehead and a large assault team of PRIMUS agents descended on Little Creek and wiped out the plant and its many replicants, finally finding in a sublevel beneath the plant a cryogenic storage center containing the frozen bodies of the entire town, some 600+ people. PRIMUS scientists were able to reverse the cryo freezing and restore the workers to life, but none of them were able to shed light on what had happen; each in turn had been incapacitated by loved ones or co-workers (all replicants), and that was all they remembered. Robotyx Inc was investigated of course, but a crack team of lawyers descended to nip PRIMUS's inquiry in the bud and mire the process in legal limbo. Mr. Roboto was not pleased with this outcome, and advanced the replicant operation. Meanwhile the hero Wirehead and his fellow Sentinels of Justice were not restrained by the legal obstructions tying PRIMUS's hands, and carried out a private investigation of the corporation’s factory in Cleveland, Ohio. Through their efforts Mr. Roboto himself was revealed to the public and many replicants were destroyed along with Mr. Roboto itself. However, a backup version of Mr. Roboto was activated in a hidden lab at the same time as the current version was destroyed. In the aftermath of the battle, Damien Styx publicly decried in a press conference from the safety of Tokyo, Japan that Mr. Roboto was an interloper attempting to subvert Robotyx Inc and thanked the Sentinels for their timely efforts to destroy the robotic enemy. By ordering the Damien replicant to spin the circumstances it in this fashion, Mr. Roboto was able to impose damage control. Though Mr. Roboto's plans were set back, they were not permanently halted.
In the 2 years since then, Mr. Roboto has secretly been rebuilding its hidden army of replicants. However the replication plan has recently encountered a setback. The criminal organization of the mastermind known as Chemo, who has suspected connections with Teleios, recently seized control of the resources necessary for PetraDyne to produce GYX-5*. GYX-5, as noted above, is crucial to the production of the synthetic skin used to make replicants look lifelike. Mr. Roboto has reserves of syntheskin, but not an infinite supply. To respond to this threat to its plans Mr. Roboto has taken steps, including tasking a small cadre of robotic Green Knights to track down Chemo and gain control over the stolen resources, masquerading as a superhero to do so if necessary.

*The compound GYX-5 was created by PetraDyne in 1989 using mud originally discovered outside of Millennium City in 1886 by a farmer who noted that some of his fields were incredibly fertile and yielded huge crops that were also extremely resistant to blights. This mud has miraculous, unparalleled mineral properties and unique rejuvenative qualities. After the healing effects of the mud were originally discovered, the fields were bought by G. Finneas Wurtz, a German business man traveling in America, who built the Dearborn Fields Rejuvenative Bath & Spa on the location. The resort like Spa did a steady trade, but was put out of business during the Great Depression, leaving the site a dilapidated ruin by 1987, and its title lapsed back into the public domain. In 1987 a college biology field trip to the area resulted in a young would-be biochemist, Paul Storgath, taking several soil samples for a class project. Studying the various samples later he noticed that while handling the soil from the Spa site, an abrasion on his finger stopped hurting and in fact seemed to partially heal before his eyes. Intrigued he ran a number of tests on the soil and returned to the site for a larger sample. He discovered that the mud had incredible bio enhancing effects. He took this information to PetraDyne Chemicals, securing a future there after graduation in return for his findings.
PetraDyne questioned the results at first, but their own research indicated Storgath's findings were correct. Moving quickly to acquire the plot from the state for a pittance, they immediately built a facility on-site and conducted thorough research on how to use this material. GYX-5 was but one of many compounds created by combining trace amounts of the mud with a wide range of other pharmaceutical products. GYX-5 was intended primarily to grow/produce synthetic skin that is indistinguishable from real skin to treat burn victims. However, Mr. Roboto got its hands on some of the compound and quickly developed a process to grow pigmented skin with hair follicles and natural blemishes by splicing in DNA from a living person, and it was this breakthrough that enables Mr. Roboto's replicants to look real.
However, some of the other benefits of the mud included use in bio enhancements designed to grant superhuman capabilities, and topical creams that can heal just about any dermatological problem. In 2003 PetraDyne decided to dig up all of the remaining mud from the site and transport large lots of it to various other PetraDyne facilities around the country so that further ranging research could be conducted and to ensure that they had total control over the miracle substance. Chemo has a special interest in bio enhancing chemicals and compounds, and took the opportunity to seize control of the miracle material via hired super villains and minions while it was en route to its various destinations. Unbeknownst to Chemo, this made him a new enemy in the form of Mr. Roboto, who needs more GYX-5 to continue to produce life-like replicants.

Powers/Tactics: Mr. Roboto is, as the name implies, a robot. Mr. Roboto's design is extremely advanced, particularly its Cyberlithonic Brain which is capable of imitating human thought and handling trinary states. Mr. Roboto is not really much of a combatant though it does typically have some assortment of robotic devices handy to fend off any potential aggressors. Mr. Roboto respects continued existance and therefore does not employ lethal force versus humans. It wants to elevate humankind into what it thinks is a superior state of existance, not kill them. To that end its devices typically incapacitate in some way. It is fond of flashes, entangles, and stunning effects particularly.
Other than its gadgets it does have the benefit of an energy efficient robotic body and a computerized response time, giving Mr. Roboto the ability to react faster than any normal humans. If pressed Mr. Roboto will let itself be destroyed rather than be captured or have to resort to lethal measures. At any given time it has a copy preparred at one of its secret labs ready to be activated by the destruction of its current active form. Mr. Roboto makes regular backups of its brain, and would lose at most 1 to 3 days of experience when one of its iterations is destroyed.

Campaign Use: Mr. Roboto can be used for a variety of purposes. It's replicant program can be used for "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" type stories, and its non-lethal tactics make it a fairly safe master villain to use on inexperienced PCs. Further, Mr. Roboto is directly opposed to Mechanon and though it doesnt pose much of a direct threat to Mechanon in combat, its skills, resources, and robotic mastery certainly allow Mr. Roboto to cause Mechanon a lot of problems. If the PCs are going up against Mechanon, they may find themselves benefiting from some secret help or advice that orginates from Mr. Roboto.

I like the write up, but one question, as his stength is already at 0 end, and he has no extra inchs of jumping, would he need to buy jumping to 0 end?

As I understand it, Yes. Leap is figured from Strength, but is a seperate characteristic and therefore spends END independently of STR. Same is true for Running. I dont have time to confirm that in FREd right now, but that is how its always been handled in the games Ive played in.

Will look into later....

This pinky person isnt a troll -- they are a spammer; they'll never read these boards. SO I can bait them shamelessly and they'll never respond.....

Same as at 1300, but with about 950 fewer points ;)

Seriously though, robots are hard to do correctly on too few points. However, take away all of his talents, perks and his Extra Body and thats 460 pts right there.

Trim some skills and some stats, lower the VPP, maybe bump down the automaton abilities....

You end up with a pretty weak character really that doesnt feel robotic at all.

Characters from musicals....

TheTemplar
May 14th, '03, 07:27 AM
Bennie and the Jets - Street level gang of Greasers who had a psych lim of breaking into choreographed Dance/Fighting (a la West Side Story) in combat.

H.A.I.R. - The Heinous Assembly of International Renegades - a quintet of 80's Rock Band has-beens who have decided that since they can't conquer the music charts, they'll conquer the world instead.

Wang Chung - a breakdancing Martial Artist; had a customized MA - Break Fu. Nasty. Combined Break Dancing w/ Kung Fu to get lots of maneuvers w/ OCV bonuses (he was always so busy dancing, you never knew wheh the attack was coming.)

I can't remember the name of the villain, but he was very high class, dressed stylishly, and had an army of Fem-Bots who all looked like the women from Robert Palmer videos (Skin tight little black dress, short slicked back hair, all looked alike, etc.)

I got most of these from other websites out there, but I don't have the URL's...if any of these are yours, step up and take credit! I think they're hilarious, and plan on ripping them off first chance I get. :D Especially H.A.I.R. Something about a bunch of veteran rockers deciding to bend toward World Domination absolutely kills me.

Well, it is a ROBOT, so Automaton seems appropriate. Also Mr. ROBOTO is definitely not a PC. He's intended as a tier 2 master villain. He has a world-altering Master Plan/Agenda and lots of resources, but his tactics are non-lethal and non-destructive so he fits a good niche. He's more or less an anti-Mechanon.

In the past I let PCs use the Automaton rules on occasion under 4th ed when it was still GMs Option.

The x3 cost for all DEF seemed to keep them in line. Its really not that big of deal.
