Could someone list the proceedures for using the update patches on this site. Just Installed v. 1.0 of Hero Designer from the CD. I ran it and checked for updates which downloaded 1.41B (update.jar.zip). I see no installer as part of this download so how does it work? The Zip file contains a lot of files do these all have to be moved by hand?

Thanks!

There is an update.jar file in your Hero Designer directory. It's under C:\Program Files\Hero Designer on my PC. Copy the downloaded file (update.jar) to the Hero Designer directory (i.e. overwrite the current update.jar file). That's all it takes.

1) If the update file downloaded it as a ZIP file, which it probably did, you will need to rename the file to a .jar extension.

2) Move the update.jar file into your Herodesigner directory wherever you put it.

3) Start HD and make sure your opening screen says 1.41b.

That's it. Simple. The problem is many computers recognize a .jar file as an archive file when in this case it isn't. Any questions ask again.

Just move update.jar to the HD directory (I'm assuming that you downloaded to a different directory).

If that doesn't work, rename the file so that it is "update.jar" not "update.jar.zip". (I'm given to understand some versions of Windows insists on adding the .zip extension to the file)

Whoa, just noticed your ".zip file" comment - not sure what you've got. Try going directly to the www.herogames.com website, then click Free Stuff (at the top), then Hero Designer, the Updates, the right click & select "save file" or Ssave link target as" or whatever you have to do to download the file to your hard drive. That will be update.jar.

Not sure what the .zip thingy is.

[edit] Ha! Lots of experts on-line! Now I know how the .zip happened!

Hi guys,

I am at work now so I cant try it out. However I use Windows XP home and it does show the file as update.jar.zip As far as I understand you I rename the file update.jar and then overwrite the update.jar in the designer directory. i take it that the .jar file places all of the files in the correct directory?

Thanks again. . .

Yes, that's it. Just Dl the update.jar file, make sure your system doesn't rename it to update.jar.zip, and save it in the Hero Designer directory.
