Don't forget -- tonight I'm doing my usual weekly chat in the Chat Room (9:00 PM Right Coast Time, 6:00 PM Left Coast Time)! Our features tonight include stupid pet tricks, distintegratin' stuff with the big laser gun, and humorous double features. Be there or be square! ;)

Yargg! I can't get the chat to work on my Mac, and I know my Java is up-to-date, since it updates automatically. It used to work, and after the last system update (to 10.3.9), no more Hero Chat, and it's heartbreaking! Is there anything I can do besides crawl over to g/f's Win2K machine and log on from there?

Don't know what to tell you, but it shouldn't be your system software. Mine worked fine before and after switching from 10.3.9 to Tiger.
Better back up, wipe your hard drive and re-install.

If Simon doesn't see this soon, you might consider dropping him a PM to ask your question directly.

Keith pretty much covered it, really...
Flames -- are you sure that your Java is up to date? Something tells me that you may be mistaken in that belief.....either that, or your browser is not set to use Java 5 as a plugin for applets/WebStart apps.

I'd also look at your browser settings. Maybe during the upgrade something decided that leaving Java enabled wasn't "safe," and disabled it. Or changed certain permissions.
Always easier to check the browser settings than do a complete re-install. Check some other sites too that have Java, and see if you can load their applets. Might give us some clues...

I have a fix.
I just developed the problem. To fix it, you need to delete the applet, if you keep it on your hard drive. Go to http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/java2se50release1.html and manually download Java 2 SE 5.0 Release 1. Install it. This is different from the auto update, since it only updates 1.4.2. You will be given the option in the future which is the default. Don't worry about that now, the system will automatically use whichever Java is requested.
Go to herogames.com/chat. The chat will begin to load normally. Accept Simon's certificate. Sign in. Start talking.

Are logs of the chats posted anywhere?

No, we don't log them. I don't even think the chat rooms have a log feature.
