Ok what exactly is it? I am thinking about getting it. So I want to make sure what it is before I get it.

The CD-ROM contains installers for Windows, Linux, Solaris and Mac. Hero Designer itself is the official character creation software for Hero System 5th Edition.

Hero Designer definitely is a help with the character creation process. It means less wear and tear on your HERO System Fifth Edition Revised.

I would give the Hero Designer CD my highest recommendation. Well worth every penny. I don't think I could GM without it. It is template software for creating any character with the Hero System, and it cuts my character creation time down to about 20% of what it used to be. I used to spend a whole evening creating a single detailed NPC with the old book-and-paper-and-calculator method. Now I can do a better job creating characters, and hammer out 4-5 NPCs in an evening.
And I also love the ability to pull any jpeg picture off of the internet, and insert it into the Heromaker file as a character picture.

Definitely the best character creator software I've used. I like it better than the old Hero Creator (I think that's what it was called), The various D&D e-tools, and the Vampire (1st ed) and Exalted designers. Only thing I like nearly as much is PC-GEN for D&D (but could be because that's free ;))
It does require some knowledge of the sytem of course. But many items have general descriptions associated with them.

Just to add: I can't recomend this software enough. You have to be really careful if you allow your players to use it though, it takes Min/maxing to a WHOLE new level.
I mean imagine being able to see with the click of a mouse how much you are or aren't saving with a limitation.
It also has all the power limits right there, so some players have a habit of just clicking whatever they can, even if it doesn't really make sense, so watch that.
The software is awesome and fully customizable (that that requires some skill, but I'm a dummy and I figured it out), and the programmer is an admin on these boards and has a techsupport forum on these boards. He also allows people to give him ideas for the next version.

Just adding my $0.02 as another happy Hero Designer customer. It's easy to use and very handy.
