View Full Version : Any interest in V&V converted to Champions?

Yes, I've converted a metric ton of characters, but what I'm really asking is this: I recently got permission to use the V&V timeline, slightly altered, to reflect what the game world was like for all of those characters I converted. I've been idly pondering revamping the webpage to reflect the full V&V world. It would include guidelines for running there as well as the main groups like CHESS and Intercrime. There would be the benchmarks (Like in the CU, "Grond is the strongest there is!" sort of stuff) and as much background material as I can be bothered to type. ;)
So the question is, would anyone even bother to look at it? Heck, I can just convert the last 12 or so module characters I have left and take a hiatus until I decide to plunder the villain books more thoroughly, but this seemed like a nifty idea. Anyway, feedback requested.

I'd definitely give it a good look. V&V is the oldest superhero RPG currently in
my posession, and I've recently taken it out to see which characters I'd like
to convert over to FREd format. While I don't have all of the adventure books,
I do have most of the 'Enemies'-type books.

Add another yes vote from me. I always liked V&V. Seeing a little more of the world hinted at by the books would be quite interesting.

Absolutely! V&V was my first game after AD&D! I'd love to see it.

Cool, and I may take you up on that. :D
Well, it seems like there is enough interest, so once I finish one more DH article (Ain't it always the way...) I'll start in on the rough draft and start begging for help. ;)

Count me in as well. I love seeing change-overs of some villians I remeber fighting. VnV was my first superhero game I played in and the GM had ALL the modules. The Most Wanted books were very cool and I would love to see some of the villians from those books stated out (ex Super Nova, Arachnos and Mountain Man)

I'm interested. I always would pick up V&V modules when I found them to see what I might be able to use (characters, plots) in my own Champions games. Plus, one of our college groups even played V&V for a bit. My character - the Flying Fury - was a blonde circus acrobat turned hero (she was fun to play). One of our players was an aspiring artist, so I got a really cool color picture from him of her (still have it somewhere after 23 years - need to get it framed or something).

I'm in on checking it out. I'd offer to help, but I don't know squat.
Still, I'll check it out and steal parts for my own game (if I ever run a supers setting).

Well, if anyone hasn't seen this yet, drop by to look at my (roughly) 186 V&V character conversions over at my page: http://mywebpages.comcast.net/proditor/vandv/vandvindex.htm
PS: Mountain Man is indeed there, though you have to look in..well, the goofballs section. ;)

Repped and added to my bookmarks. Really brings back memories. :)
Is Jeff Dee's new game worth picking up?

Since you're able to use some of the timeline, are you also going to be using art for the write-ups?

I haven't broached that subject as yet, and I'm admittedly a little nervous. I think if I confined it to more background montages, I could probably get away with it. Either way, I have a mail to Mister Dee all prepared. ;)
EDIT: Much to my chagrin, I haven't really taken a long look at Living Legends. What I saw looked just fine, but with approaching age, I'm starting to fall into the "No new systems!" curmudgeon mode.

*Nod* And he's been remarkably cool about my using his stuff so far. I just hadn't broached art yet as I hold it semi-sacred. Dee's art got me into Superhero RPGs after all. :D
EDIT: And yeah, I know he says it's cool, but I'd feel better asking. ;)

Yeah, the guy maintaining it asked me which one I wanted to use when I mailed about it. (Of course, it would be par for the course on this thread that Alwyn is the maintainer...)
And Dominique, no worries, and by all means, don't lurk. I'm absolutely looking for feedback on what to do next since the current site is *at best* a gen one webpage.

I hadn't played V&V, but I checked out your website, clicked on a random character (who happened to be mountain man) and noticed one of his "powers" was a Varmit Gun.
I am so stealing that for the evil redneck supervillain I will throw at my players the next time they show up late....
Anyways, as someone who hasn't seen V&V I think what you are doing is a great way to introduce people like me to the characters. Thanks!!!

Proditor ... have you thought about going PDF with the info?
Not really. I had an idle thought about it, but the harsh reality is that it would probably mean tracking down a lot of people to get their permission. Jeff Dee gave me a handwave on anyone he made, and said there shouldn't be any problems about converting other characters. But I'm not sure how sticky things get if I "publish" even if it is without the intent to get a dime for it. Much like the issues with Hero characters pre 4th/5th, the V&V characters are all owned by their respective creators.
EDIT: And in all honesty, this is my "Darn I'm bored. Hey! I'll convert another 10 V&V guys!" sort of thing. Granted, in another 6 months or so I should have converted every published character, but I'd feel kinda weird actually trying to make it into something. Just ask Dave Mattingly what a nudge I am about my DH articles. ;) Darn he's a good sport.

Awesome stuff and they are right that guy on the front cover page does look vaguely like Proditor's Avatar.

I can up the funny though...
Let's suppose I occasionally transpose names (Which I do)
Let's suppose again that I even clicked on the link and read that it was not, in fact "alwyn" who maintained the V&V timeline, but Agent 13.
Let's take our last suppose as I even read it in my e-mail....
Now with all of that, attributing the page to the wrong person entirely is even funnier. ;)
Heya Agent, I'm still using the old file so I'll probably be doing a little copy/paste action from your site. Would you mind taking a look at the first draft of the conversion doc when I get it finished?

Is it just me or has Jeff Dee's artwork gotten worse over the years? His old stuff is awesome, but the stuff from the last 10-15 years seems goofy, blocky, and unfinished.
Supreme Serpent
Dec 21st, '05, 08:15 AM
I think alot of his recent stuff is great, like the pics they based the Living Legends figure line on - Shutterbug, Condor, NightOwl - great stuff.
But some artists definitely do stagnate as they go on. John Byrne for example - whatever you may think of him as a writer, he's a great comic artist - but has definitely narrowed down over the years - using the same dozen or so faces for everyone, completely ignoring backgrounds in many cases, etc.

Okay, keep your fingers crossed. I just submitted two DH articles that had been doing a reasonable impression of the Sword of Damocles on me, so I have some free time again. I'll be glad to. I'm not the best person to ask when it comes to game mechanics and such, but I'm always happy to look at the other bits.
While we're on the subject, I may be firing up a PBeM (http://herogames.com/forums/showthread.php?p=558630) set in Center City (http://www.geocities.com/agent-13/centercity.pdf), with the PCs being legacy heroes from the team who took part in the original Crisis At Crusader's Citadel. I'm busting out the V&V rules for old time sake, but if you want me to let you know when things start, give me the word.
