As mentioned on the tempboard discussion of polls, I think people would have far fewer objections to user-created polls if the subject didn't have "Poll:" prepended to it. The "Poll:" makes the thread stand out, which encourages people to create trivial polls so that their posts will be noticed.

Or, maybe have a separate Poll thread. That way, we all know where to go to find them, and they aren't cluttering up everything else.

I think that a seperate POLL thread is the far more even handed way to go. It allows those that like Polls to have them, while isolating them from those who don't care for them.

I have seen polls be very effective when used with genuine thought on other boards, especially by the web-staff and those who are producing the products in question.

Well, whatever the DoJ decides.
I can't speak for anyone but myself but...
I don't post polls "to be noticed". I do it because there are things I am curious about, I do it because it might be of use not just to me, but other players or even the DoJ; and I do it because some folks will vote on a poll when they can't be bothered to post a full opinion. To prove this, I get a lot more votes on a poll than I do responses to the thread part of it.

I really haven't seen a problem myself with it. One man's trivial fluff maybe another person's gem. And as Mister Death said "99% of everything is crap, not just polls" (But he meant it in a NICE way) :). The problem with taking the 'poll' out of the title would be that you then get the people who hate polls not being forewarned. At least listed, they can be skipped by those who don't like them.

I do not really see what the big deal is. If you do not like a poll, then just don't open that thread. It is not like a poll thread has a 12d6 Mind Control, single command, Trigger on it. :)

Personally I like the polls. Some of them are quite useful, and even when I don't vote I sometimes find other things to discuss within the thread. I say we should keep them as they are.

Bah!

If people posted threads 'to be noticed', they'd just make outrageous statements in all caps with exclamation points and any other bells and whistles they could think of. C'mon.

You have POLL and (hopefully) a concise subject sentence. Ignore it if you feel, and move on.

Now, if you don't mind, I need some attention. So I will now go make a poll. ;)
