I’m trying to figure out how nets work in the Hero System. I have 5th edition and Fantasy Hero. I would appreciate someone building a weapon for me and pointing me to the right sections.

Well! A quick wander through the library came up empty. However, it shouldn't be too difficult.

I'd use a Multipower with an OAF on the Reserve.

Slot 1 (ultra) is going to be a 2d6 Entangle, Limited to Throwing Range (10 lbs?), Lockout, 1 Recoverable Charge.

Slot 2 (ultra) is going to be +5 STR only for Grabs and 2" of Stretching Only to Grab.

Off the top of my head, that may not be perfect, but its a start.

I think this might be the same for a Lictor's Flesh Hooks - which interests me at the moment for my game. The power level would be significantly higher though.

Curious: Why the second slot?

I would think (2d6 Entangle, Limited to Throwing Range (10 lbs?), Lockout, 1 Recoverable Charge, Real Weapon) would be exactly what it represents.

Plus you could adjust for nets that were designed with hooks by maybe increasing the entangle by a d6 or more.

The second slot is for when you keep it in your hand, the first is for throwing.

Nets were also commonly used for blocking/deflecting. Possible third slot, +1 DCV

Maybe even add on Sticky for those hooked ones

Yeah, my first thought was that there were two basic configurations for melee combat with a net. One was basically the entangle bit (aka fish-mode) and the other was more offhandable (aka gladiator style with trident).

I'm still not totally happy with the build. That second slot is giving me fits.

Plus a 1/2d6 KA. :)

Guess it depends on the size of the hooks. I would think more of a 1 pip HKA possibly with reduced penetration. Now develop this from the perspective of a rather vindicative or brutal people and you could get a "shredder net" that can actually kill someone....hmmm:whip:

You have to see Alien vs. Predator or Seven Swords.

We had a similar topic come up a while back, and several different parameters for nets were discussed and statted out:

the net of net and trident fame was weighted, not hook. I used one once and the weight caused it to open up like a hand, It griped the orther fellows sword like a gaint hand. yanked it out in one motion. (you hold the net in the center).

in the movie style games the net could be used to climb, tye up some one, block a door, entangle at range, block incoming weapons, fish with it, and club some one with the weights. (use it to disguise -like a cammo net.)

OMW and I should have also stated a cloak, shawl, cape and a Kilt (tight weave or course:))

If you think this is just funny then watch (was it last year) the Illida (spell) when Agommenon wife walk in to his bath and threw her shawl over him and preceded to knife the Entangled husband (who scarificed her children for a fair wind). great seen totaly unexpected cool.
