I just received the collected Deed of Paksenarrion and have finished book 1 ("Sheep-farmer's Daughter"). I was thinking it would be nice to do three character sheets for her -- one for book 1, one for book 2, and so on.

Has anyone done a character sheet for her before? Or has any ideas as to what she's look like in HERO?

Here is my recollection from book 1, BTW.

Tall and strong -- very tall in fact. Can lift a sheep to her shoulders. Gets stronger after 2-3 years in the Duke's Company. Stats as per a talented normal.

STR 13-15+
DEX 15
CON 13-15
BODY 11+
INT good (perceptive)
EGO good (brave)
PRE good (brave, tall, attractive)
COM 16 (everyone comments on her looks)
PD average
ED average
SPD 3
REC fig.
END fig.
STUN fig.

Running: 6" maybe 7" (long legs)
Swimming: 2"

Martial Arts:
1) Basic sword and shield (cut, thrust, parry, dodge?, slash)
2) Basic unarmed combat (basic "judo")

AK: Known World 8- (she marched over a lot of it)
KS: Mercenary World
KS: Duke's Company Customs
Navigation (land?)
PS: Soldier
PS: Sheep Farmer
Tactics
Survival
WF: Sword, Knife, Spear, Bow, Crossbow

Favored of Gird: This is tough... my best guess was Danger Sense, IAF: Medallion of Gird, No Conscious Control (only happens 3 times in the first book). Also, possible Combat Luck (3/3), as she supposedly gets wounded less than others. In addition, "Faith 8-" as she was able to call upon Gird (once) to heal someone (but didn't intend to).

Rep: Good, skilled warrior, "hero" of the Honeycat campaign

Disads:
Psych: Honorable/Code of Honor (loyal to friends, protective of the weak, and so on)
Psych: Enjoys Fighting, but doesn't "like to fight"
Psych: Chaste
Watched: Assorted Holy Orders (Watching, 8-)

How did I do?

Good, as always you are the Master.

Then for Book III you give her a 30 EGO and a Paladin VPP.

I'd say more but I would hate to spoil you on one of my 5 favorite fantasy novels.

Now read and then get started on the Finovar Trilogy by Guy Gavriel Kay. I want stats on all the major characters.

This looks really good to me. You have captured Paks quite well.
I think Divine Favor (the Talent from Fantasy Hero) would be appropriate for her too, or perhaps in place of one of the abilities you've suggested.
Gird does seem to be looking out for her, even during the first book.

Nice job; one of my favorite characters of all time.
BTW, if you've never read the Deed before, the 3rd book has a moderately graphic torture scene.
But it also has one of my favorite lines of all time, when Paks says "Paladins show that courage is possible."

I've read Deed once already, and finally picked up my own copy.

My next major adaption project will be Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser. :D

When? No idea on that one.

Some possible additions to Paks's character sheet.

TF: Horse
CSL: +1 or +2 with Swords
Teamwork (she did learn small unit fighting... but that was more shieldwall work)
Defense Maneuver 1 (she's hard to get around)
Language: "Common" (no idea what she speaks)
Paramedic 8-
Stealth 8-
Concealment: Self Only 8-

Looks good. It has been a long time but I don't know that I would give her much MA.

Lets see what I can add to the conversation....

1. Maybe a touch of Power Def/ Mystical Armor - assuming that you buy many of the evil monkey attacks as either NND versus Power Def or something similar. Their powers tended to kill outright but Paks was only hurt pretty bad. She wasn't immune but sure seemed to survive a bunch of impossible to survive stuff.

2. Divine Favor.... Yeap.

3. PRE only for DEF (not much to start with but she was foolhardy type of brave).

4. Contact (Merc Leader) I don't recall his name.

5. A dice or two of regular ole Luck.

6. IIRC she seemed to make frieds pretty easily.

7. I like the danger sense idea.

8. KS - Merc Companies.

Mostly it is detail stuff which I am utterly unqualified to comment on since it has been the better part of a decade since I read the books.

I'm mostly through Book 2, Divided Allegiance.

Paks sure has piled on the skills. She seems to have some more CSL for swords/HTH, and a pile of KSs relating to geography, history, law, customs, and what not. Riding, too and some Contacts, Favors, and whatnot. No paladin powers yet, but she does have the Perk of Girdsman/Paladin Candidate.

Still taking notes.

She needs about three different writeups in Book 2, IMHO: Brewersbridge adventurer, paladin-candidate, and then at the end (which I won't spoil for you). Probably two writeups in Book 3, as well.

Useless fact: For any old-time D&Ders, Brewersbridge is a stealth novelization of a classic old AD&D module, "T1: The Village of Hommlet". Names changed to protect the guilty, but otherwise remarkably true to the source.

Yeah, I am debating exactly how to do the character sheets. I'm thinking an "end of Book 1" sheet. Then packages representing the next stages of her adventures. The final stage looks to be a Total Psych Lim. although there may be an EGO loss as well.

Heh, I was told the Paks book was the novelization of a AD&D game. No different than Record of Lodoss War in that respect.

Okay, finished the novel last night.

I took notes, but no where near as well-organized as my Conan ones... however, I think they will do.

My intent to is to have three character sheets, one representing Paks at the end of each book.

Thus, they will be:
Paks the mercenary/free-blade
Paks the (spoiler removed) paladin-cantidate
Paks the Paladin of Gird

Input and suggestions more than welcome once I get the rough drafts posted.
