I would be much obliged if people would give me a hand with a bit of data from the old "Mind Games" supplement.

My problem is this. I have been wanting to revive (and slightly revise) one of my very earliest Champions characters from way back in the day, a mentalist called The Phantom. (He was my second character, "The Shadow" was the first. :)

The GM helped give me ideas for character background out of Mind Games, a supplement I've never owned. Basically, he was an escaped "recruit" from P.S.I. (P.S.I. ended up being the group's primary enemy in our first several adventures.) The trouble is that my memory of the details has decayed to the point of near-nothingness, and I want to write a bang-up character background.

I recall that he was primarily "handled" after being kidnapped from his family by a Counsellor Smart or Dark or something like that. Can somebody give me an idea of what his powers were? Could he be described as a psychic surgeon, capable of reworking or suppressing someone's memories? (Mental Transform, basically?) If not, who else in P.S.I. could do something like that?

Also, who in the group has suitable powers for punishing recalcitrant teenage "recruits" - a nasty mental blast or something of that sort? Basically a "bad cop" against Counsellor Whoever's "good cop". I recall a real creep named Psimon, but don't remember if he had the powers to do it. (I DO remember Torment - he and the Phantom had an interesting scene - and I don't want something THAT bad, thanks. :) Besides, if I recall, the Phantom felt sorry for Torment more than anything else, and I need a person that he can safely love to hate.)

Finally, any names for other "recruits" being managed by P.S.I. from the supplement will be appreciated. I recall that the GM eventually turned one of them (after P.S.I. broke up) into a supervillain, a minor thorn in our sides.

Much thanks for any help you can give. I would prefer an answer by email, if possible.

P.S. I'll gladly post the full character background once I have the info, if anyone is interested.

Counselor Darke: had lots of Mental Defense, and a rather mild Ego Attack Damage Shield. He brainwashed people the old-fashined way, not through mental powers.

Other students (many of the PSI villains are showing up in recent Champions suppliments):

Force: teenaged TK, male.
Blackout & Displacer: tweener twins - male & female, turns off senses & causes sensory distortions.
Flashback: child, telepathically sends false memories, girl.
Floater: alien, TK and TP.

Potential "bad cops": Psymon (in MC?), Mind Slayer (in CKC), Impulse.

Potential "good cop": Soulfire (also in MC?).

edit: corrected CKC abbreviation

Psymon is in CKC. A very different character with the name Soulfire is in MC.

As far as potential "bad cops" from Mind Games go, the likeliest candidate would be Philip Townsend, "Inquisitor." He was PSI's chief interrogator and torturer, and according to his writeup often used his powers in conjunction with Counselor Darke's brainwashing techniques. Inquisitor has a powerful Telepathy with a Linked BOECV Killing Attack which could kill if he didn't use restraint. Under 4E such an attack could do BODY damage with GM's permission, not needing an additional Advantage, but it might work for your purposes to leave it as a STUN-only attack.

Inquisitor is almost grossly fat (a glutton in fact), and is actually physically addicted to the high that he gets from using his power. He also has a fascination with Gothic horror, and sometimes implants graphic nightmares in his victims' subconscious for kicks. Even by PSI standards, he's slime. ;)

Many thanks to all of you for your help.

Inquisitor does sound like a great candidate, Lord Liadan, thanks. I recall him vaguely; he didn't play that role in the Phantom's original incarnation, but this will be a different campaign anyway.
