View Full Version : Should I still go to Dundracon?

Sigh! With the bad weather in the area, my flight to Detroit (which then connects to SF) for this morning has been cancelled. I have been rebooked on a flight that will get into SF about 9:30 pm PST -- and thus not out to San Ramon until about 11:00 pm -- meaning I would miss one of my favorite events of the con, Derek's Challenge of the SuperFriends.
From talking with the folks at NWA, it seems I can get refund for all but a $100 of my airfare back if I cancel my flight altogether and I wouldn't be shelling out for a hotel room. So, it's almost tempting to take that route even though it would mean cancelling my Friends of Justice game due to be run Monday morning at 8 am.
So what do people think? Should I go and hope that my current annoyed mood doesn't spoil the whole trip for me or should I just stay home and save a pile of money?

Just go. You'll have fun - you know you will.

Well, you should of course do what will make you happy, but we'd miss you if you didn't come, man. There's still the Saturday party, the seminars and announcements, and your own game even if you miss Derek's. dw

Rod,
Nobody can answer that but you. While I certainly want you to come, I don't know enough about your financial status to answer to the relative worth. If you're looking for other reasons to come then think: If you don't come, you'll also miss some other cool games, the Hero party and the chance to hobnob with cool friends (like me). ;)

Having not been able to go to a particlar convention for three years in a row, trust me; go. You'll have more fun at the con than if you stay home, and the money'll be worth it. And you'll kick yourself for the next year if you miss it.

Go you fool.....Dundra has more Hero events usually than the other Bay Area Cons....(if I was still living in Cali I'd have run a couple of Champions games at Conquest last year and Kubla this year....)

Okay, okay. I'm on my way.
YOU BETTER BE ON YOUR WAY! Don't make me come up there and drag you back! (That, by the way, is my clever endorsement of your attendance here at DunDraCon because I think you're cool and want to bask in your awesomeness!)
Besides, stop by the Challenge of the Superfriends game anyway. I'm sure Derek will be happy to let you play a bad guy for a couple of hours. :eg:

Hmm.... Always thought that the Board has a mind of it's own, but didn't know it had Mind Control as well :D
Look forward to chatting with you again, Rod.

I think you should still go, but I marked "no" on the poll because it isn't a real poll unless someone says "no". And today I am that person :D

I'M very glad you went to the con! Otherwise I'd not have met you and the others in your Friends of Justice game. For me it was definitely one of the high points of the con. Even better than tripleing my starting stake in the poker game! Rod, you told me the url of your website, but I've forgotten it. Refresh me? I googled
supersquadronofamerica but got no hits...
take precautions,

Jim, it was great to meet you, hope to see you at future cons. As mentioned, I may get to Kubla, should decide in the next day.

Well, as you can all tell by now, I did indeed go and even though I missed Derek's Challenge of the Superfriends game, I, of course had a great time.
The Hero party (and poker game) was lots of fun. I had a hoot at Darren's Universal Monsters game. And I am glad that folks had fun with the Friends of Justice game -- I had a great time running it. Of course, that great time, as usual, was all due to players like OddHat, ZornWil, Jim J, Randy Greer (brother of former Hero Games partner Ray Greer), and the others whose names I do not recall who brought the characters to life. Thanks guys.
Fortunately, my trip home was much less eventful and did nothing to diminish my memories of a great time.

Thanks,
it was really nice to sit at table with such high quality players and a GM who could run combat AND tell a story. I got two really nice things in the mail when I got home that afternoon. Kate Bush's new CD and a post card from Kubla Con. Have they got their timing down or what? I'll be there, Grid willing. It's not quite so close to home for me so I'll probably actually get a room with some friends.

Thanks. I'm looking forward to heading out to the Bay Area for KublaCon -- there's a lot of good gamers out there. I've submitted and hope to be running four events there (as I've stated elsewhere): the same Friends of Justice I ran at Dundracon, the debut of the 2006 SuperSquad America Champions event I'll be running at the summer cons (although the Kubla version will be a single 8 hour event rather than a two round tourney), and the debut of two brand new events for me: The Remarkable Wrong-Righters, a lighter-hearted Champions event (spun off from SuperSquad America), and The Saga of the Smiling Fox, a somewhat Robin Hood-like Fantasy Hero event.

Well I'll certainly be trying to get into at least one of them. I'd be tempted to do the FoJ again. I really enjoyed playing Doyle and liked the genre and your assemblage (sp?) of characters, but I suppose I should let someone else have a crack at it. I'll review the info on the website about the other games. I'll be registering for the Con tonight!
