How would you work something like and energy beam or ego attack that was linked to a focus that if you had the focus it would be at full power but without it would be less.

Like an energy beam at 10D6 with the focus, but if you didn't have the focus it would only be 5D6.

It kinda makes me think of Solitare from 4th Ed with her Widget where her focus gave reduced end.

Thanks for the help,
Andrew

Only put the Focus Limitation on part of the Power.

Yep,

But (say):

5d6 EB Ultrabeam

Plus

+5d6 Ultrabeam, OAF: Beam Crystal

Just what the other guys said.

Solitare's Powers were written up a little differently though, with a Limited Advantage rather than just a partially limited power.

Hey thanks for all that, I think I'm figuring it out now. I see how it works, but now I need to figure out how to write it up. I'm using Hero Designer v2, if anyone could help with an example for that, I'd be very thankful.

Ghostraven is quite correct. Solitare had a limit on her advantage.

While I understand that her writeup is still legal, it is not a very commonly used construct.

The "xd6, +xd6 w/limit" on the other hand seems to be the way Hero 5th prefers to do things.

If you are using Herodesigner, the only way I know of to create Solitare's build is to create Widget as a naked advantage. The "xd6, +xd6 w/limit" is pretty easily created as a compound power.

Ah, associativity. Gotta love it. Not like commutivity. :tsk: :D

Which would be how you'd build it even without Hero Designer. One of my disappointments in 5th Edition is that now that we have a solid mechanic instead of a kludge for writing up Solitaire's Multipower, so don't have a Solitare anymore.

In HeroDesigner you can use the Compound Power option and place both Energy Blasts inside that. They will appear as a single Power on the writeup.

Hey thanks for the reply, that's what I was thinking, but I wasn't completely sure.
