In 3 of his films , BLUE DEMON starred as the leader of a squadron of masked superheroes known as THE CHAMPIONS OF JUSTICE (which for some reason never counted Santo among their ranks). Membership in the CHAMPIONS included such legendary figures as Mil Mascaras, Tinieblas, El Rayo de Jalisco, El Medico Asesino, El Fantasma Blanco and Superzan!

While my Spanish is rather rusty, I believe both of those are acceptible translations. "The Assassin Doctor" and "The White Ghost" are probably more accurate, but for the most part, the end results are synonymous.

Mil Mascaras translates directly as "Thousand Masks," as it was part of his shtick to never wear the same design twice. (The only common element is a small "M" in the middle of the forehead.) More than any of the others, that became his actual name rather than a title, and fans just affectionately call him "Mil."

"Tinieblas" means "shadows" or "darkness"- he was a giant guy by Mexican standards (like 6'5) and affected a grim, mysterious mien.

"El Rayo de Jalisco" means "The Jalisco Thunderbolt," Jalisco being a city.

"Superzan" doesn't mean anything- some words in English just sound good to the Mexican ear (or, at least, sound heroic or action-packed), and two that turn up a lot in Luchador names are "Super," always pronounced "Soo-pair" with the last syllable dragged out for effect, and "Tarzan." (Others include "Doctor" (Doctor Wagner is one of the leading modern day tecnicos), and "Kid" (another popular tecnico is "Kid Relampago," or "Kid Lightning.") In fact, there's even a "Kid Tarzan." dw

Hopefully this helps folks realize how useful the LL book could be to some champions campaigns. The El Santo movies I've seen (admittedly only 3)are effectively low powered superhero flicks.

And while I'm not sure, I think "El Medico Asesino" means something like 'Doctor Death'.

Wasn't it called "Blood Brothers"? That book and it's sequal were great. I still remember the Midget Nazi adventure fondly.

Yeah, you're right. It was "Blood Brothers".

And it was fun to see that not even the forces of the Cthulhu Mythos could withstand the power of the Atomic Drop.
