German Translation of Hero System

There was a question on my "home board" about the availability of the Hero System in German.

AFAIK there was never a German translation of the rules or am I wrong?

Is there ANY chance, that we might see a German translation of books like "FREd"?

There's never been a German translation. In fact, AFAIK there's never been any translation of any edition of Champions/the HERO System into any language other than English.

We've been approached once or twice by people interested in licensing the rules for translation, but it's never gone anywhere. We're always willing to consider other such offers. What we're not willing to do is spend the money to do the translation ourselves; it's too much cost coupled with too much risk. We'd rather license someone else to do it and take a cut. ;)

I'm working myself on a french version of the hero System (not the whole book, just the basic to create characters : powers, advantages, limitations and disadvantages) fro my beloved players who refuse to read the FRED (it's not anti-americanism; it's laziness). i hope to put that work either in pdf format or html and then put it on my gaming club website.

My question is :
as there is no intention for a translation of FRED; does it violate the copryright law ?

It unequivocally violates copyright law to publish (in any way) your translation of our intellectual property. Please don't do it.

Coincidentally enough, a French game company has recently licensed an English language version of one of their games (Reve de Dragon). They are so concerned about maintaining their copyrights that even the free downloads require registration....
