I just saw this book at the local Borders. Anyone else see any copies floating around?
First AD&D, now GURPS. How long will we wait until they get around to Hero Games, the best roleplaying company? Maybe we fans should get together and write the book as a group effort? ;)

Yup, I even picked up a copy myself, and I think it's great. I didn't even know one could use spreadsheets like that. And since GURPS and Hero are very similar in concept and execution, Hero players could use it as well with some tweaking.
Actually, if you read the authors backgrounds, none of the GFD authors are afiliated with SJG. The next book inthe series is Dungeon Mastering for Dummies. As for Hero for Dummies? Well, I think the first book would be vol 1 of several :)

I'd prefer to keep the dummies away from Hero.
How's it going, Sweeper?

Well, you have a point there, remember when I ran Champions last year? *shudders* Some people should stick to dungeon crawling.
Sorry, Me and C.O. know each other

Actually no. I was never able to make it, remember?
Although I do seem to recall you complaining about something related to it...

A Hero System for Dummies book would probably be the shortest of any in the RPG for dummies series. All it needs to say is "Visit the website www.herogames.com (http://www.herogames.com) and read the FAQ and ask questions directly to the authors and fellow players on the discussion boards. The Hero System has a support base unparalelled in the industry making it easy to get assistance understanding any aspect of the system." Two sentences. That's it.

Maybe it should be given away as a free PDF. :D

I still think it'd be good idea, judging by the looks of horror people gave me when I'd pull out 5ER. Maybe I should buy two more copies of sidekick. Besides, the hardest part of Hero is character gen.

I feel sort of like I know you too. One of the main player characters in my current Dark Champions campaign (http://www.herogames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=40202) (the martial artist) is named Sweeper.

To Edsel: Long Story short, I ran a champions game for a gaming club I was a part of last year. I presented a mystery to some pure dungeon crawlers and it went over horribly. When I asked one of them if they really wanted to play, she said no. That pretty much brought the adventure to a screching halt.

We're in the midst of playtesting from d20 to HERO now. One of my players does need a Hero for Dummies book. That, or he needs to get on the damn boards.

Concept, sure.
Excution... I don't think so.
I'm currently reading GURPS 4E (I have the Basic Set Character and Powers books) and it not only looks nothing like Hero but is actually irritating me.
They don't sparate Special Effect and Mechanics enough for me. That and i don't grok a bunch of it, but I learn by experience mostly so that doesn't surprise me. If I ever get bored enough, or find actual free time, I'll try and play a session of GURPS to really make sure I hate it as much as I think I do....

I would probably have said it the other way around. I see them as being similar in execution (3d6 rolls, Skills/Disadvantages/Powers, etc.), but not in concept. I think their dissimilarity in concept is where things like the lack of divorce between mechanic and special effect in GURPS comes up.

I know the joke's been done before, but still...
Isn't "GURPS for Dummies" redundant. :straight:
