Hello all,

I've been searching and searching for mini's to represent my groups player characters and I'm having a bear of a time finding that work...which is suprising considering they aren't that unusual (i.e. no freaky races and such).

As it stands, I'm trying to find the following:

A lightly clothed female feline humanoid (found here (http://www.crocodilegames.com/secure/items/WGE-802.jpg) on the right)
A human male wearing a chainmail shirt with a sword and dagger
A heavily armored mounted human with shield and sword
A non-armored or leather armored human holding no weapon or a small sword

I honestly figured the last three would be easy enough but even Reaper doesn't seem to have them. All of the mounted dudes are wielding lances and my conversion skills are ok with plastic, but tend to lack when dealing with pewter.

Anyone have any leads I can follow?

I often have luck with Games Workshop

A human male wearing a chainmail shirt with a sword and dagger
A heavily armored mounted human with shield and sword
A non-armored or leather armored human holding no weapon or a small sword
[/LIST]The Bretonnia Miniature Range has plenty of mounted knights. Here are some mounted knights (http://us.games-workshop.com/games/warhammer/empire/catalog/elector_counts.htm) with sword and shield. The flagellents (http://us.games-workshop.com/games/warhammer/empire/catalog/flagellants.htm) in the Empire section have light or no armor and most don't appear to be holding weapons. I'm not sure if they come in blister packs, though.

The sword and dagger in chainmail seems like it should be easy...but no luck so far...

Hope this helps!

:cool:Nice. The 02555: Dirk Donovan model is really close...human with sword and dagger. Studded leather rather than chain, though.

I know Reaper has those figures you want, because I've got 'em:)
I think the mounted guy you want is Sir Lightspear or something - he comes in several incarnations on foot and mounted, with and without spear.
Also, Reaper has pretty nice weapons packs that can be used to modify your minis easily - If you have access to a jewelers saw (you can buy 'em at many hardware or art supply stores for ~$20-$30) I'd reccomend it over a file - then you can save the sawed off bits to use on other minis. Takes some getting used to, though. If you can, get someone to show you the "right"
way to use it.

Frenchman is right, but you don't even need a jeweler's saw. An X-acto knife with replacable blades, and a small X-acto sawblade is all you need -- probably only cost about $6. Weapon-swaps are easy. One of my Digital Hero articles goes into detail about how to do it.

I actually have a box of the Bretonnian knights for that players Warhammer Warband, but the HERO game is more Roman than Full Plate.

The flagellants are really more crazed lunatic than the character I need it for (he's a con-artist).

I was hoping to do all Warhammer mini's to keep the scale similar but they don't have any felines so that went out and I've been focusing on Reaper so far.

Yeah, I've been using that extensively and haven't found anything but near misses. :(

Yeah, he's actually one of the ones I've bookmarked so far. Here's the list I've generated with Reaper:

Nothing exactly dead-on and the heavy armor guy examples don't have a horse, but, eh, what can ya do.

Yeah, I do a lot of conversion work for our warhammer armies, but pewter is still a bit rough for me because if I screw up, I have to go buy a new mini. :hush:

I have a lot of fantasy roleplaying miniatures -- certainly in the hundreds, possibly low thousands (I stopped counting a long time ago) -- and I still have trouble matching players' ideas of what their characters look like. I find it easier these days, for those who won't accept a "close enough" substitute, to point them at the teeming mass of figures when they're building or equipping a character and say "Find one you like and make a character like that".

Or else get them to find and buy their own goddam mini :)

Which reminds me -- I really should drag another couple of dozen out of the "Unpainted" drawer and make them all pretty and stuff. Maybe later.

I usually find a miniature I like and draw the character design based on that. Then there's a perfect match.

I do something in between -- I consider what minis are available when I decide on how things should look in general and leave enough vagueness in the description to allow flexibility with the models.

try this for the heavy armor, mounted sword and shield (but i can't tell if it actually has a shield or not).

:sigh: I've really got to get that sculpting and casting workshop set up in my garage. I've been promising it to myself for over a year now. Just one of my many stalled/semi-abandoned projects. :doi:

Back when I was still buying minis (mid-80's), the place to go was Ral Partha for the biggest variety. I don't even know if they're still in business, though.

Anyway, I have some of these ancient leads and I could match all of your needs except the kittycat. Looking at the casting dates on the bottom, it looks like they were all designed in 1977.

I wish I could be more help.

Sadly, I see he is discontinued. I know I've got at least one copy of that one painted, I wonder if I have spares.

Even more sadly, Ral Partha is out of business - the year I started gaming ('88, I think) was the only year I ever saw their mini's on the shelf at my FLGS (also gone now) and they were on sale. Too bad I lost most of them in high school.

Yeah, I remember having a bucket of Ral Partha mini's back in the early to mid 80's. :D

Now it's Reaper for character models and Warhammer or Grenadier for Wargames.

Just picked up a box of these for the badguys: http://store.us.games-workshop.com/storefront/store.us?do=List_Models&code=302773&orignav=301128&ParentID=250218&GameNav=13

Ral Partha's molds got bought by a new company. They're called Iron Wind minis (http://www.ironwindmetals.com/) now. They still have most of the older stuff available.
