When I try to buy duplication of over 350 point duplicate for a new character, HD adds Altered points and doesn't allow it to be unchecked.

I can add it to a existing character with no problem though.

Thought I'd let you know. Not sure if 'ts HD or a problem on my machine :)

That's by design.

If the Duplicate has more points than the original, then it is (by definition) an Altered Duplicate.
