Hiya Gang,
I was wondering ... has there been an effort from Hero-fandom to make a fan-made spellbook for Fantasy Hero? I think it could be useful and, if the powers that be (aka the Hero Crew), could make it sticky, that would be awesome.

There have been many fan-based attempts. Killershrikes website has a ton of conversions and creations and one of the members here (i apologize deeply for not remembering who) created an amazing Grimoire which I have the Hero designer Files for should you want them emailed to you.

I think the person you're thinking of is Mark "Markdoc" Doherty, whose Ultimate Grimoire (http://www.geocities.com/TimesSquare/Castle/9529/Gaming_stuff/Grimoire/the_ultimate_grimoire.htm) is indeed a marvelous collection of spells and magic items of all sorts. I also recommend exploring the rest of his excellent website, Mark's Astounding Cyber Empire O'Doom (http://www.geocities.com/TimesSquare/Castle/9529/).
Killer Shrike's High Fantasy HERO (http://www.killershrike.com/FantasyHERO/FantasyHERO.htm) website is another tremendous resource for HERO fantasy games, and creating/converting magic systems is one of his specialties. You can access his extensive efforts from this webpage (http://www.killershrike.com/FantasyHERO/HighFantasyHERO/FantasyHERO.shtml).

Yep - although I can't take credit for the HD files. Fitz made those and also has a useful app for digging spells out of the grimoire on his website.
cheers, Mark

Here is a direct link to the spells on my site:
http://www.killershrike.com/FantasyHERO/HighFantasyHERO/spellLinks.shtml
Its important to point out that the Spells are intended to be used with the various "Vancian" Magic Systems on my website:
http://www.killershrike.com/FantasyHERO/HighFantasyHERO/MagicSystems/Vancian.shtml
Which are D&D style fire & forget Magic Systems where a caster has a set of "Known Spells" and can cast a finite number per day by level (i.e. 6 "1st Level" Spells per day for instance). Thus they are constructed to use Charges and Continuing Charges. There is also a minimum of -1 in other Limitations taken from a list including Incantations, Gestures, Concentration, Extra Time, and one or two other lims required by the various Vancian Magic Systems.
Finally, for purposes of the Vancian Magic Systems on my site, Spell Levels equate to increments of 15 Active Points each, starting at Spell Level 0. Thus:
Level AP
0 1-15
1 16-30
2 31-45
3 46-60
4 61-75
5 76-90
6 91-105
7 106-120
8 121-135
9 136-150
However, the base effect and general ideas can be adapted to other Magic Systems fairly easily by switching up the lims.

Isn’t it about time we make Killer Shrike’s site sticky? Sort of a Fantasy Hero F.A.Q.?
