I have recently been loaned a "50 Mystery Movie Maga-Pack"; a collection of DVD's which mostly date from the 30's and 40's featuring such Pulp characters as "Bulldog Drummond". "Sherlock Holmes", "Dick Tracy", "Mr Moto" and even "Nancy Drew". I haven't got to it yet but one of the films seems to be a version of Wilkie Collins' classic "The Moonstone". Starring many well known actors such as Basil Rathbone, Ray Milland, Boris Karloff (playing a villain, of course in one of the films and a hero "Mr Wong" in another), Peter Lorre,Richard Basehart, Robert Young and Orson Wells. It is from "Payless" and while some of the films are scratchy, they make a great "period" resource. Web address is www.payless.com.au This implies that it is an Australian concern but it may be available overseas as well. I'm sorry but I don't know the price (it was loaned by a friend) but I don't think that it was very expensive. The company also produces "Megapacks" of "War", "Sci-Fi", "Musicals", "Hollywood", "Family", "Comedy", "Action" and "Western" classics according to the add on the inside of the front cover. Could be a useful resource for anyone running a "Pulp" game.

They are indeed good resources. There's also a pack that specifically has classic serial films (advertised as 150 chapters all told, which makes it 10-12 films), which include some real gems for mining ideas.

I can remember that one being shown late at night (a compilation movie version I think it was) on Australian television and staying up till midnight or so to watch it !

I rented the dvds for the first two Dick Barton films before christmas via amazon and they are two of the worst films I've ever seen. The acting and dialogue were downright painful. About the only thing of interest in the first was a brief cameo of Patrick Macnee.

I've always liked the Christopher Lee Fu Manchu films and I think you can obtain two of these as part of a boxed set on Christopher Lee in the US

As one of Kharis' players, I watch them purely out of self defense. :)

However, if he ever decides to recycle a Japanese "suit-mation" plot, I'm doomed.
