I was wondering if I could put in a order for The Ultimate Skill book now? I know it will be released at Gen Con but I would like to get my order in early as I won't be able to attend this year. :(

This is the book I've anticipated for quite sometime :)

Thanks!

Except in special cases like C25, we don't take pre-orders. They cause a whole bunch of potential adminstrative and legal difficulties.

Bummer! :(

Oh well, I'll have to wait a little longer then :)

Assuming all goes well, we should be sending it out to distribution right after we get back from Gencon on the 14th. You wouldn't get it any faster from us by preordering- we'll put it on sale as soon as we physically have them in hand. dw

:celebrate

At 400 pages, you're going to give us alot of information to absorb :nonp:

Anything special, inside the book, that you can tell us about know (new skills perhaps) and other early secrets? :sneaky:

Thanks again!

Hmmm. Well, let's start with the back-cover blurb:

No matter what genre you choose or setting you use for your HERO System campaign, one constant is Skills. Virtually every character, from the most powerful superhero to the weakest peasant, has at least a few Skills, and some characters depend on them every adventure to get things done and keep themselves alive.

The Ultimate Skill is your guide to Skills in the HERO System, with advanced, expanded, and optional rules covering every aspect of Skills and Skill use. It includes:

—expanded rules for buying Skills, including altering their costs and purchasing lots of them easily

—advanced rules for Skill modifiers covering every genre and setting

—expanded rules covering everything about Skills including rules for learning Skills, Skill Versus Skill Contests, degrees of success and failure, Complementary Skills, extended tasks, team Skill use, and much more

—detailed descriptions of every Skill in the HERO System rules including common uses, historical information, appropriate modifiers, equipment used, time required, expanding or altering the Skill to suit different types of campaigns, and genre-by-genre applications

—optional new Skills

Whatever game or type of campaign you play, The Ultimate Skill is filled with information to make it and your characters better and more exciting!

As a further little teaser, here's a list of the optional new Skills I put in the book, a couple of which have appeared elsewhere previously:

Armorsmith
Divination
Feint
Hoist
Instructor
Musical Instrument Familiarity
Parachuting
Poisoning
Research

At the risk of sounding like a shill, I think TUS rocks. I'm particularly proud of it and think it's one of the best books I've ever done. I've been waiting years to create/have a gaming resource like this for HERO, and I can't wait to see it in print. ;)

Excellent! Research and Instructor, in particular, I think are Skills that will fill definite gaps in the HERO System Skill system.

I think gamers will enjoy both, if they like detail in their games. (If not, no biggie. ;) ) Instructor primarily ties into the rules for learning Skills, whereas Research stands more on its own, but interacts nicely with various other Skills (such as Cramming and KS). Both are handy for "intellectual" characters, I think.
