Susano & I were threatening to derail the quotes thread in the champions section, so here we are.

Previously on WBCNH...

Just ran a session of my Streetfighter/Darkstalkers/King of Fighters/Sailor Moon-based Ninja Hero game...Now there's a rare genre.... :D

I'm still trying to figure out how to mesh in Ah Megami-sama!, Ranma½ and Tenchi Muyo. Kimagure Orange Road is a snap though.
Google something called "Dance of Shiva" -- see if its still around. Author plausibly combines AMG!, Tenchi, BGC, KOR, Patlabor, and even Sailor Moon into one universe. It'd make a hell of a supers game.
The BGC and Patlabor elements of DoS leave me groping for a different take. That and the main elements are KoF/SF/SM.
So, any sugestions on how I could incorporate these?
1. Ah, Megami-sama!
2. Ranma½
3. Tenchi Muyo.

If you have Darkstalkers, then you have ghosts, vampires, succubi, and other weirdness, which means you have the supernatural. If you have that, it's not a big jump to introduce angels, which would be Urd, Skuld, and Belldandy. Also, magic and the supernatural would help explain the Jusenkyo cursed springs, although a more realistic version would have the second form be more accurate for the time and place (i.e. gril-type Ranma isn't some buxom red-head, but a slightly-built Chinese girl from 1000 AD).

Tenchi is tough, and doesn't exactly fit in with the rest. Mainly due to the outer-space origins. However, DoS has Jurai being a former colony of the Moon Kingdom, lost these many, many, many years. So you have the same general transformation sequences and the like in which Jurai warriors gain new clothes, weapons, and energy projection powers. DoS also links the people in KOR to Tenchi, with them being distant relations to Tenchi via his grandfather (who's been on Earth for 700 years and hasn't been living totally alone...).

The KOR-Tenchi link was one I was planning, but I've just been reminded of another fic I read a long while back, in which the Juraians were actually ancient allies of the 10 kingdoms, and this went to explain why the GP and the Juraian fleet had placed Earth under (relatively) heavy protection. (Supposedly, but it seemed that anyone who wanted to could just roll up to the planet with so much as a "Halt-Who-Goes-There!") As for the similar powers, this was explained by the Juraian and Moon Kingdom courts each having rules about having to marry a citizen born to the other's empire every couple of generations. This tradition became the Juraian tradition of marrying from this pissant backwater we call home.

My biggest problem is how to include Ranma½, which I really want to do. How do I tone down some of the crazyness (Keeping the love-4th-dimensional-shape) without losing the feel of the characters.

Yes. Overwhelmingly insane.
As for how to incorporate Ranma 1/2, look more towards the movies. While the craziness isn't toned down much, the need to incorporate a plot means that there is more character developement then just watching an old pervert try to obtain another truckload of panties. (Not that that isn't fun mind you....)

Weldun luckily none of us are medical doctors...;) No I think adding Ranma is no big deal in with everything else you are doing....

BTW Susano maybe the drown girl was a part of Japanese trading caravan coming to the mainland. You know of that clan of Red-head Merchants:D

In the manga onna-Ranma doesn't have red hair anyway. Her hair is drawn as just dark in both forms and Kuno would surely call her the red-haired girl if she had that as a distinguishing feature. Nor does anyone ever leap to the conclusion that she's Chinese despite being dressed ala chinois, so it would seem that she's just Ranma as he would have been if he was born a girl. As for the crazyness, not a problem. Just play it straight. One of the reasons why Ranma is such fertile ground for fanfiction is because it combined so much comedy, action/adventure and tragedy into one series. When Ranma fights the Phoenix...not so funny.

Ranma vs. Saffron was the one time that Ranma had ever truly become murderous... hmm... and he has fought something that could have been Orochi-based... maybe a little left over taint, possibly even making Nadoka a part of the Yagami clan... :eg:

Yeah, you're insane, but in a good way! Kitbashing genres is always fun, just remember that the players in this thing had better be as Otaku as you or you'll quickly lose them in the all the cross-genre references. :)

I personally would love to run a game set in the universe, but dang it would take a lot of work. I mean, heck, it features something like 20+ anime series of the mid-1990s.

If you are looking for a more simple explaination as to how to describe your game concept, my friends and I play these games occasionally...

We call them "Wild Martial Arts" campaigns.

Read the comic Gold Digger, by Fred Perry. There is lots of material to be had for such a campaign. If you want an idea of what goes on without having to spend money, check out his GDTangent site here:

http://gd-tangent.tsunami-art.com/

The set titled "Ayane" is about a woman who is a professional wild martial-artist. The other comics are fun too.

For some reason I'm reminded of the Monty Python song "Anything Goes." Particularly the line, "Anything goes in!" :D

As for crossing over with Ranma 1/2,that shouldn't be too difficult.Ranma/Sailor Moon crossovers are endemic on the net,so they can't be too hard to pull off. Speaking as a canonist,I think that if you want to reduce the love polygon thing, the Ranma cast should show up post volume 38, & after Ranma & Akane are finally married.(For one version of this I suggest you take a look at the following site:http://www.fanfic.net/~dragon/lines/lines.html).

But then, I haven't had anything to do with it yet....

Lucius Alexander

The palindromedary suggests keeping it that way....just stay between Lucius and the manga and I'll try to edge him out the door....

If the love tesseract was still in play, it would place too much focus on Ranma, and not the PCs.
