Well, I Finally got a copy of TUSK. And I'm very happy about it....
I'm interested in hearing other opinions on just how wide a span is "ok" for Expert...
I've already built a new Ninja using Expert: Acrobat with Acrobatics,Breakfall,+2 DCV:RSR and PS: Acrobat, and am considering Enviro move: Narrow surfaces as being "in the groove".
I've also liked Expert: Infiltration, but what about Expert: Crimefighter?
Is that too broad a span of skills? After all I can stuff in KS's and Contacts along with Streetwise,Crimenology, Forensics and gawd knows what else....is this too wide a span? Or am I overanalyzing?

It leaves a hand shaped bruise as it's only mark, quite puzzling when found Under armor for example

Pete went to Japan for an extended stay to teach English. Being who he is, he managed to save Yumi from a Mist viper hit. They were unable to save her father, but Yumi's uncle trained Peter in gratatude.
Mist vipers hold grudges Real good, so pete, now married to Yumi has relocated to the states, and renewed his friendship with Paul, who driven by rivalry, had moved to Japan and found ninja training of his own...
Paul is more of a joiner, and is a clan member, who was sent to the states as a operative.

I've already built a new Ninja using Expert: Acrobat with Acrobatics, Breakfall, +2 DCV:RSR and PS: Acrobat, and am considering Enviro Move: Narrow surfaces as being "in the groove".I think that's a pretty reasonable Expert package, although I'd question the "+2 DCV:RSR" if a player presented it in my campaign since the core Skill of Acrobatics can already enhance Combat Value. I may consider a similar package for my super-gymnast Zl'f, although I definitely wouldn't take the extra DCV (But then, with a 43 DEX, who needs it?). She already has all the other Skills, so I think she wouldn't save any CP, but it is a more elegant way to depict her expertise with gymnastics.
I've also liked Expert: Infiltration, but what about Expert: Crimefighter?

Or am I overanalyzing?I think Expert "Crimefighter" is probably far too broad in and of itself. That having been said, I can't see any problem with buying two or more narrower Expert packages to accomplish the same thing. Perhaps one with Streetwise, Criminology, KS: Police Procedures, etc., to represent the expertise with crimefighting, and a second one with Contacts, KS's, and AK's to cover extensive knowledge of the city and it's underworld.
If you make Expert too broad, it just becomes a way to discount every Skill a character has. Like any power or skill, it has the potential for abuse if taken too far.

Yeah, that was my feel on it...I was hoping for a handle on where the border may lie...Infiltration, and Acrobat seem "OK" but Crimefighting is too broad....I am also a little confused on "titles"
My basic take was Expert: X was a basic test. If I can't put into a one word title it's not "right". But "crimfighter" stumped me. What would I name the two Expert packages if I break them up?
And I've got a strong feeling that nobody should have more than one set...if your That good buy the "universal" sets...
That being said, the two Ninjas turned out very nice. I'm guessing that spending more than 15 to 20 points is likely the break point between "cool" and "stinky"
I'm not sure I agree about the RSR DCV because I thought Acro could only provide "suprise move" bonuses and they are OCV only....I could be wrong though.....

I figured if you're going to use Expert, you might as well use those too. I never thought it made sense for someone doing acrobatic maneuvers like cartwheels and backflips to get only attack bonuses anyway.
Breakfall also has some interesting new twists. :)

Yeah I'm often torn between Wide open and restrained....In general I don't mind wild and wooley.
But Expert is new and I worry about "spoiling" it by going too far.
In addition I only get to Play at game cons so I like to make sure my characters won't set off the "Yikes!" meter..:)

Finally got a chance to look at Acro again, I'm going to keep the Levels:RSR.
The new DCV options are in the "highly optional" portion, and the recomended way is using levels with RSR, because thats how I've always done it, and it's now validated by the book, I'm sticking with it.
I was a little unhappy to see both Traveler and Expert were not given "Universal" versions....I guess I'll have to make my own...
"Cosmic know it all" 25 points you know every expert modifiable skill at 8 or less. This roll can be increased +1 per 5 points, or Overall levels. This is often divided into two sub skills, "knowing" and "doing". The knowing skill lets you know all about things, but not how to do them nessisarily.
Doing is the oposite.You can modify the power unit to produce more power but you have no idea if that will overload the radiation sheilding.....

Ogumoshindo, aka Onigumodo, is the Spider path in the poison path tradition of Ninja.
The spider Ninja are the master spys of the Ninja world. Most of the legends about shinobi super spys are based on the exploits of the spider Ninja.
A spider Ninjas idea of a perfect assasanation is blackmailing your most trusted comrade into killing you, while planting evidence that you're doing his girl where he can find it....The spider Ninja motto seems to be "Why tell one lie, when two will do?"
Spider taijustsu has changed a great deal since the Genpei wars. Originally they were masters of Jiujitsu. Since then they've developed into a careful,defensive striking art, that avoids grapling.
Clinging is a common super ninja move, but it is unknown for a spider ninja to lack this move.
Offensively Ogumishindo users depend almost exclusively on their Venomous techniques. Onigumo Ninja also make wide use of the horrible Soul leeching technique.
Spider ninja have also widely adopted the Mind gate power set, even though it is not part of the poison path...

Dokuhanna, one of the last surviving spider Ninja...
the Red banner had almost no sucess corupting or controlling the spider Ninja. Most claim that is because they are so steeped in corruption, that there was no more to be done....

The 5 deadly Venoms:

Centipede Ninja went extinct in the pre shogunate era, the Scorpians are actually the merger of the almost extinct poison path scorpians with the Sohei survivors of Nobunaga's supression efforts.
The snake still exist, aided by their alliance both with the forces of the underworld, and the Red banner.
Lizard ninja ,officially anyway, never existed, and faded away. Some claim the hated Spider Ninja evolved from the Lizards.
Toad shinobi were well respected, but were targetted early by the Red banner. And so expired.

So why does the Red banner hate Ninja? Well they don't, but the Red banner is working on an evil master plan. And the only thing they feel can stop it is Chi masters.
So they targeted Ninja to exterminate Shinobi Ki masters and to use the corrupted remnants as enforcers. And to assasinate other Chi masters, The Red banner hates to waste anything.....

I'm planning to go off tangent here and put down some background on the Red Banner, and of course it's heroic rival, the Hidden Temple.
The Red Banner was reputedly founded by a Sage who had been trained in Shamballah. He was a master of disputation. During his time there he was well known for going down to visit the dragon guarding the city of shadows.
He claimed to do so for compassionate reasons, he worried that the dragon was lonely and bored. Many now claim that it was he who corrupted the dragon.
Where the First Master of the Red Banner is now is not known. Most claim he is now imprisoned with the other lords of shadow, below Shamballah.

The lin Kue were some of the Red banner's earliest sucesses, they were originally debased Taoist Sages, who turned from the Tao, and became worldly. A few escaped to other lands, where they helped establish traditions of trickery and stealth.
The Red Bannner saw the Shinobi as the inheritors of the escaping forest demon sages. They planned to corrupt them, and use the remnants to hunt other Chi masters. These remnants are called the Hunters, Ninja dark chi masters.
A Sage followed the Red Banner to Japan, he was reputedly a leading figure in the supression of the Lin kuie. He was the founder of the Hidden Temple, so named because despite being sought out for centuries, it has not been found.
The style taught is generally refered to as Ginboshi no Tatsu Ryu, a style specificly designed to slay Ninja and their kin.
( I use a multi-Fu for this, if you hate Multi-Fu, then I suggest you use Resplendant Dragon out of UMA)
The most promising Chi masters of the Hidden Temple are designated as "Seekers" who hunt the Red Banner, try to foil the Hunters, and recruit potential Chi masters for the Temple. At the very least they try to insure that Chi capable persons can find safety, if not in refuge, then in their own strength.
Seekers know the safety that mystery gives to the temple, and so never give straight answers to anyone. They let their actions speak, while they remain silent.

A Seeker was nearby, hunting the Hunter, when he sensed Don's potential.
He was able to get Don away, but the Shinobi strike team killed his parents.
They spend a year or two in hiding in the outback, then made their way to the Hidden Temple...

THe Red Banner and the Golden Demon temple had always had good relations. The masters of the Golden demon style used magical/Demon granted powers, and so had no Chi masters. But a series of divinations suggested that the Bak Wu might suceed at overrunning the world before the Red Banner's plan matured....so The Red Banner corrupted and destroyed the temple.
THe remnants were taken over to be utilized. Venerable Chin was a potential Chi master who was corrupted by the Red Banner. Having survived, he was worthy. But he is not well trusted, as such he is responsable for many of the worldly concerns of the cult.
He runs the major cash cow,a large retail chain in Japan. And oversees the whole shinobi project.....

Yumi was a fairly normal little girl, her parents were both school teachers in Hiroshima. Things first changed for her when she discovered the power of her body, and all the things she could get people tp do in return for her "surrender"

The Scorpian Ninja are not really Ninjas they're the remnants of the Sohei destroyed by Nobunaga (at the behest of the Red Banner). They merged with some minor clans and survived to modern times.
The Red Banner does not consider them a threat to their victory, because the modern Scorpians use Sorcerous Taijutsu, not Chi mastery.
Scorpians are the ultimate "strike ninjas" many storys that speak of ninja as unstoppable killing machines are based on the exploits of scorpian Ninja.

So who do the Red banner send when they're really peeved, and they want you to know who's after you? Tulpas. Basicly a Tulpa is a "thought made real",a basic mastering of the Mara, any monk worth his salt ought to be able to do it.....
OK, it's really hard. But Tulpa masters are amoung the elite in the Red Banner.

Tulpas can take most any form, being a dream afterall...but most take the form of an idealized human. A tulpa should be impossable to tell from a "normal" person, but the inherant corruption of the Red Banner shows it's self in their Tulpas...they are always "unnatural".

Now an example of a modern Serpant ninja...thease guys can have huge variations, most all are Bak Wu, though more and more are dark chi masters.
Serpant Ninja are the infiltration masters of the Ninja world. Storys that descibe Ninja as master shapeshifters are mostly inspired by the exploits of the serpant ninja...(Multiform is also a well known serpant ninja power)

Sadly the rank and file shinobi, didn't understand his value, and they decided he would not live through his training.
It was then that Jasons real talents begain to show, his irrational mistrust and general paranoia were suddenly survival traits....
And his habit of searching any location top to bottom Really paid off...
He found the lost, taboo cursed library of the Steel wind clan. And in it, the cursed Ninja-scroll!
The scroll contained the "perfected" form of many shinobi arts, but was cursed, if ever read the clan would surely perish!
Well, by then Jason was none too loyal to the clan. He read the scroll, and fled.

Next will be a Taoist Sorcery Expert....
Madame Yin, was created by accident at least 120 years ago.
She was the mistress of a corrupt monk/priest (a Red banner associate, possable a Member) He had devised a ritual to become a Yang immortal, using the Red Sutra, and his girl as a sacrifice.
Sadly for this unknown monk, his girl was no fool, and was educated in Taoist sorcery. She arranged for the ritual to reverse, slaying the monk instead of her, and transforming her into a Yin immortal.
Both Yin and Yang "immortality" ia a false form of immortality. Over time the energy requirements become too vast to maintain (the cost constantly increases over time)
These "Immortals" eventually reach a fork, they either die, or transform into something not human.
Yang immortals sometimes become Demons, Yin immortals often accidently transform themselves into hopping vampires, or other undead before they reach Demon status. Yang immortals usually just explode.....

The Red Sutra is currently in Japan, supposedly stored in a place called the Go-ka no Toride.... the dwelling place of the Red Sage. This personage has mastered the the Red Sutra, a feat not acomplished in 100 years.
The Red Sage is an associate of the Red Banner cult. He has acheived the amazing status of being considered mad and corrupt even by the standards of the Red Banner.
In concordance with the Red Banners theological theory on the unity of opposites, the Red sage teaches about "sacred hellfire".
apparently useing the principle of unity of opposites one can find the sacred within hellfire (Goka) the normal result of atempting to master the Red Sutra is being reduced to a fine ash.
This can be explained as finding the hellfire within the sacred. All beings with a soul contain the essence of the sacred....this particular unity of opposites is ...ummm...Bad.
Only the most capable sage can acheive ballence with a soul of hellfire.

Madame Yin is the classic "Dragon Lady" type villian....she also has a non stated out power...she can corrupt anyone with enough time, once corrupted the victum becomes her willing/unwilling slave...this is meant to frighten the heros, but only happen to NPC's...
I used to handle it by whenever a hero had an extended conversation with M. Yin I'd roll some dice and write something down...;) sometimes I'd ask if they had Power def "just to make sure"...if they did I'd look disapointed, but ask if it was "hardened" if the answer was "no" ( and why wouldn't it be?) I'd write something down.....:)

I found a Ninja in my "Projects" binder....
Naga is an Iga Ninja, raised in the Nagashindo tradition. But Nagashindo requires a bargain with a creature of the Underworld, and Naga has no disire to be beholden to Yomi.
So she makes do with a vast array of shinobi skills for now...

I'm so jazzed about Lucha Hero possably comming out that I have Luchadors on the mind.
I could use some name help from a Spanish linguist though.....His name is "Blue Spector",I have "Espectro Azul" written down, but no habla spanish.....
Blue Spector is a monster hunter. As a luchador he is not so exelent. He mostly depends on his "Ghost smashing fist" and his "Energy drain" powers, suplimented with his repulsion spell and his basic lucha skills.
