When I was a child, one my dreams was of a Monopoly tournament in which the final round was played with real money, and the winner kept everything he had accumulated at the time of his victory.

That will be a lot more difficult with the new Monopoly: Here and Now edition announced today, where you now get two million dollars, far more currency than existed in the entire game last week, just for passing Go.

I still like the old version

moving the digits around is kinda ... dull.

... you know. I always sucked at Monopoly. Now I can suck at Monopoly and feel even worse about it.

I frequently lose, badly, at Monopoly. (I know the various strategies - but my luck is the kind that will land on three hotels in a row, and then go to jail for rolling three doubles. . . all on one turn.) Now, I might have a new strategy - to see if I can lose by a billion.

Finally, a version of Monotony that actually sounds interresting.

Cool. Though I'd rather just use OGRE counters instead of the little hat.

I've always done pretty well in Monopoly (the key is to trade aggressively and point out how much of a threat the other player is when making trades).

As far as the new changes go, kind of irks me. Monopoly isn't really meant to be updated.

Why would you play Nuclear Monopoly when you can just play RISK 2210?? (or, in my circle, Spite 2210. I like Nuclear Commanders).

I prefer Nuclear Risk, myself. The game seldom lasts more than an hour, tops. There's frantic stockpiling of nuclear weapons, generally followed by a nuclear conflagration.

Why would you play risk when you can just roll a random amount of dice and yell at your friends?

(I'm not a fan of the game - try Diplomacy instead)

Technically, I think that you move to jail immediately upon rolling your third double so you wouldn't have to hit the third hotel. Hope that makes you feel better. :)

I use a SuUpremecay Nuke Mushroom Cloud as my Monopoly Piece.

Ah, Deplomacy. When I worked at a games store, we called it Divorce. Its a brilliant game, just never play it with someone you love.

I was more partial to Supremacy, myself. How often in life to you get to have conversations like

Roger:Do you want that territory
Jason:Yes.
Roger:I have 8 nukes, do you want that territory
[Jason withdraws his forces]

Nah. Forgot about that - so it's two hotels, three doubles, and jail. It's not much of an improvement, really.
