Hello all,
Sometime ago I had the players in my WWII superhero game try to imagine what movie actors could play their characters.
It basically came down to this:
Major Glory, patriot brick: Dolph Lundgreen
Jade, shapeshifting martial artists gypsy: Jane Russell
Bjorn, norwegian werebear: Max Von Snydow
Makeshift, mentalist/gadgeteer: Matt LeBlanc
So far it has helped to make the game alot more fun for us. So I was wondering if you other players had ever done that.

Okay, here are a few of mine:
Captain Glory, patriotic martial artist/gadgeteer: George Eads
Captain Photon, goofball energy projector: Ted Raimi
Laughing Boy, clown-themed gadgeteer: Gordon Michael Woolvedt [sp?]
Rattler, serpentine mentalist/martial artist: Arsenio Hall

My current character Hype (a over-caffeneited speedster) sort of defies conventional Hollywood type casting, but in the past Ive based characters on Bruce Lee (no, Im not one of those supporating Bruce Lee fan boys; it just happened to fit the character concept ;) ) , Tim Roth from Hoodlum, Bruce Willis from the Jackal, and similar fare.

Eads is Nick from CSI? Ted Raimi was the comic relief on Xena, can't remember the name, also on Seaquest DSV. Can't place the other guy.
My character is a kid, I sorta based him on the claymation Mike from Gary & Mike so live action would be a young Harland Williams, but good-looking ;). Mr. Williams would have many long hours in the make-up, my character is blue too.

Speaking Herc and Xena, Superion one of my Hero/Antagonists is based visually on the guy who plays Ares in those two fine epics...
Ben Seeman

Tekno would be played by Gale Harold or Johnny Depp.
Cadeceus would be played by Mark Wahlberg or Ethan Embry.

Tonight, due to illness, the part of Captain Tempest will be played by Captain Tempest....
skewing a Dennis Leary intro.
Actually, I think the guy who plays the lead in Television's the Beast Master would make a spiffy CT.

I thought he fell in China on a movie set.

Centurion was Pierce Brosnan.
Nighthawk was Alec Baldwin ( the way he looked in Hunt for Red October ).
Longbow was Guy Williams ( the way he looked in Damon and Pythias ).
and Patriot was Howie Long.
There were buttloads of others but those are the major ones. I have made a habit of casting all my characters after reading an article about it in an old issue of Adventurers Club that Allston wrote.

Well being that I've only been GM-ing HERO "stuff" lately, I'd have to say Sean Connery.

My character, Lifeline, a brick with the powers of regeneration and healing others, could be played by Vin Diesel.

I frequently use movie stills for my various characters, as well as ads, and other images I get from the internet.
I actually use actors and movie/ TV (and sometimes book) characters to round out my NPCs.
Compare:
You see a rumpled detective amble towards you VS Detective Colombo ambles up towards you.
The Amstar CEO is a slight, nervous man, VS, The Amstar CEO, played by Rodney McDowell, says....
Two officers, Ofc Abbot and Ofc Costello, are accompaning Capt Kirk of the Police Department, as he comes towards you. (Could of been TJ Hooker, but I needed a womanizing, confident hero type for this role.)
You get the idea. The character has an immediate hook for the players who have a pretty good idea about the character. It creates a sense of verisimilitude for the character, plus gives you ready made NPCs, complete with personalities and mini-history.
Sweet no?
assault
Jun 19th, '03, 03:10 AM
Assault would have to be played by Russell Crowe.
He's not quite right for the role, but I can't really think of anyone else with the right build and accent. On the other hand, he has the appropriate attitude. :)

Lord Doom, one of the Great Evil Mastermind characters in the Guardians Universe, is Avery Brooks.
No, I mean literally... I turned Avery Brooks into a mastermind supervillain because when I asked him once what sort of supervillain he'd be, were he a supervillain, he replied that he'd be a "Blofeld style arch-villain".
So I made him one.

While slightly off topic and I am sure the fine people at Hero have their own idea of who should play who, but who would you pick to play the Champions? Here is my humble list.....
Defender: Jerry O'Connell
Ironclad: Dolph Lundgren
Nighthawk: Billy Zane
Sapphire: Salma Hayek
Witchcraft: Nicole Kidman

It was from Adventurers Club #7 Summer 1986 (I can't believe that was so long ago). It was for The Empire Club column and the article was titled Cinema and Justice, Inc..
Basically it was about how to give your games a more cinematic feel. The first suggestion was to cast the characters, both PCs and NPCs in terms of actors. This would give the players instant recognition of various characters and make them more memorable. There's more of course but that's the basics.

Hmmm...Casting Call for Trinity?
Cyberknight (Dr. Ethan I. Rheingold) - Donald Sutherland (The clean-shaven, well dressed version from "Path to War"
Anvil (Rachel Sharone) - Yasmeen Ghauri (Technically not an actress, but she was the baseline for the character art)
For the other folks, I'm still looking.
