Okay so I had an idea for a shapeshifting race for my ElseEarth Campaign.

The Fenn:

The Fenn are a race of natural shapeshifters. Their origins unknown, even to themselves, they live on their homeworld in relative peace and have recently made their way into the intersteller community. Though many races who've met them treat them with suspicion, the Fenn themselves seem very genuine and gregarious.

Appearance: Well they're shapeshifters so...yeah. However:
The Fenn are an attractive people. Humanoid with red (most often; see below) skin and hair and eyes in the entire spectrum. They have pointed ears and little or no bodyhair. They also have gender. Even though they can appear and even "Function" as the opposite gender, such activity (generally) doesn't affect biological changes. A Fenn's natural form is an extension of their sense of self and as such they tend to be quite fetching. They generally alter their forms to create the illusion of clothing and such, always suited to their taste. Intricate and beautiful clothing and hairstyles are a mark of pride.

Government/Society: The Fenn have a comic book cosmic feudal system. They are ruled by a noble family and currently headed by Queen Nysphara. There is a noble caste, a warrior caste, and a "citizen" caste. The mane difference between these is the natural appearance. The Citizen caste has crimson skin, almost metalic in appearance. The Warrior caste is darker skinned, they have a greater control over their shapeshifting abilities, able to take more powerful forms and manipulate themselves to a greater degree, they exist in an approximate 1:6 ratio to the citizens . The Nobles are a deep, metallic orange, almost bronze. They are generally more powerful than Warriors and many lead Warriors in battle; there is a 1:250 ratio of Nobles to Citizens. Finally, the Royal "Caste" consists of a small group of extremely powerful, golden skinned Fenn. There is generally 1 Royal to every 100 Nobles. A citizen can be as powerful as a Warrior, or even a noble, but they will never be considered either.
The Fenn have a surprisingly independant society for such a strict "accident of birth" style government. Being natural shapeshifters, the Fenn are big on self reliance; after all they can assume shapes or alter their own shape for nearly any purpose. They also have little use for "alterbeing". They don't try to pretend to be other Fenn or appease other races by looking like them, the Fenn are proud and prefer their natural appearance. There is less duplicity among the Fenn, and "identity theft" is a foriegn idea for the average Fenn.

Relations with other Races:
Many of the races that the Fenn have enbcountered since becoming spaceworthy fear their shapeshifting powers to some degree, fearing that the Fenn will try to replace them, or spy on them, or steal from them. The Fenn are seemingly eternally patient with these attitudes even if a bit saddened or surprised by them..

Technology:
More advanced than Earth in many ways but not so in others. They don't have as great a need for tools as races that can't form simple shapes with their hands. They do have advanced weaponry, travel, and medicine. They value art and beauty greatly and their tools reflect that. Form and function have equal value.

any questions? Thoughts?
