Ok, I posted about this a couple weeks ago, but after doing some further troubleshooting on my own I am still stuck.
Just a little background, I have installed Herodesigner on my local hard drive, but my character files are being kept on a network share.

Whenever I open a file in Herodesigner I get an error loading the template. The error message points to a network folder that contains my character files. I am completly unable to fix this.
Choosing a new template from the local hard drive doesn't help.
Copying the character files back to the hard drive doesn't help.
Reinstalling the program doensn't help.
The problem exists both with old files and new files I try to create.

What am I doing wrong?

My answer remains the same on this one: HD is unable to find the files on your network drive. The error message in your log file remains the same: "FileNotFoundException: Network Files/User Files/Matt Files/Champions/Herodesigner/Heroes/FORD.hdc"

This is most likely an issue with the setup of your network.

There is no difference in the way HD finds/accesses the file the first time you specify it and the way it finds/accesses it at other times (like when loading a character).

The easy answer is simply: "don't keep your files on a network drive" -- at least, not until you figure out what's going on with your network....

I posted something similar a while back; HD does not seem to like UNC's. Doesnt look like the problem here, but I thought Id mention it. I ended up just writing a couple of simple batch files to copy my character directories from the main box to my other systems, so that Im always working with a local copy.

Actually, I'd bet this is related to the problem. After some more experimenting I discovered that if I tried to open files from anywere except within the Herodesigner folder, I'd get a template error.

My network works fine for everything else, and Herodesigner doesn't even like the Temp folder on my local drive, so I guess I'll just work the way it likes until I can come up with something more clever.

Sounds like there's something seriously screwed up with permissions on your system, then....
