View Full Version : I want to build my base out of plastique

On page 487 on 5ER, the Explosives table has an entry for "Plastic Explosive (1 block)". The damage was 15d6 Normal, but at the time an entirely inappropriate thought was running through my mind, inspired by my recollection of an old saying "enough on me to blow up the entire block" . . . what if you had an entire city block made out of plastic explosives? Then, my thoughts turned to the next logical step in that sequence:
What if your entire base was built using plastic explosives?
How much would this cost? Hypothetically speaking, of course

How much would this cost? Hypothetically speaking, of course It would cost more than it was worth. If I recall my explsoive detonators (i.e. looking back through movies) electric current is one of the easiest methods to ignite plastique - which would mean that the base would explode everytime you switched on a light. This would upset the neighbours, require you to pay exorbiant damages, and lots of money to replace the base regularly. Just hope that the Villans don't know where your base is, because all they would need to do is set off an electric current to make it go boom. Now if you had a Transform building into plastique explosive (healed back by been blown up) that could get interesting.

The base could have insulated electrical systems.
On the other hand, working out of a booby-trap that could very easily be used against you, fall pray to mishap, or be set of by some character's FX, is not the wisest of courses to take.
I would just build it as a 6d6 AE ERKA, 1 Charge, Does Not Recover, Destroys Base With It, No Range.
Or something like that.

You should watch the end of Tomorrow Never Dies. I suspect the villain may have done just that. (stupid villain...)

I thought all villain bases were inherently explosive?
It's like a 50 point disad!

Maybe he had it in mind as an inescapable deathtrap.
"You may have defeated me, Mr. Bond, but you shall not escape this place alive!"
The hidden costs are a neverending supply of plastique. Want some more? Just go back to your base and tear out a piece of the wall.

Which gives me a fun idea for a villain power. Major Transform--Sheetrock into Plastique, area effect.
"No, don't turn the lights on!" *boom*

You've all overlooked a SERIOUS problem with this idea: plastique is NOT a structural material! There's no way the base would stay up!

It's the folding base! Fully collapsible into a mere fraction of its working size!
Re-expansion is up to the villain in charge, of course. Hopefully telekinetic :sneaky:
When the villain is away, noone else can come in to play (or steal her toys).
When the heroes break in and take out the villain, the base promptly Entangles them under several tons of plastique.

I see it more as a coating material, like stucco. Or maybe insulation...?

So long as it's not the layer to meet the eye of anyone to wander inside. Cover it up with wallpaper or something. This also provides casual protection against static buildup

Why bother with stucco?
Next, on HSN, our special brand of Plastique Spackle! Easy to apply, even easier to take off! :D

Every bomb sniffing dog in a three state area would probably go nuts trying to get there.
