I'm thinking about checking this out this year since it's just a floating bridge away from me:

Conquest NW (http://www.avalonconventions.com/conquestnw/)

My plan is to run 3 games and, well, you know, play. (Hero has been great about hooking me up with prize support and hopefully they'll come through again this time.)

Is anyone else interested in running or attending?

I went last year. It was an OK con. But I expected it since it was it's first year.

I forgot to mark my calendar so I almost missed it this year. I will need to do a fast check of my prepared materials and see if they are con-worthy. I sent an app in for Legion of Heroes and need to see where it is, it has been a LONG time since I have actually gamed at a con. Last time I just wandered, talked and tried demo’s.

I will definitely be there though. 29 Dec is the deadline to submit new games. What are you planning to run and do you have a time slot yet?

I haven't picked any slots because I'm not quite sure yet when the RPG slots usually fall. Perhaps you can help me out me out with that. Do you remember if they are a 8am, noon, 4pm, 8pm con... or a 9am, 1pm, 5pm, 9pm con... do they build in an hour for their lunch??? (I emailed the Conquest NW RPG coordinator and haven't heard anything yet.)

In any case, I'm planning on running a Pulp Hero game (one slot), and a couple of slots of a Big Brawl game.

What we were you thinking of running? I'm definitely down with working our time slots so we have the option of playing each other's games.

I will try and find last years schedule/handouts. Since I didn't pre-regester for any games I just played as a walkup.

What will the Big Brawls genre be?

What we were you thinking of running?

I will be looking at my stuff. I don't have a lot of time for write ups, so it will probably be a low-powered supers one-shot (teaching/intro/demo style) or a Pulpish one-shot also teaching/intro/demo style.

I'm definitely down with working our time slots so we have the option of playing each other's games.

That is a great idea.

Sweet. Let me know if you find anything.

What will the Big Brawls genre be?

I run a game with 350pt versions of up to 12 villainous bricks (ie Ogre, Black Diamond, Durak, etc.) pounding away at each other in a variety of arena settings. I've gotten really fond of doing it as a King of the Hill Game, because it complicates the strategy a little...

Excellent... I'll be sure to post in this Thread as my plans move along.

damn.

Even if I were able to talk my wife into letting me go, I am already committed to the Con of the North (http://www.conofthenorth.com/) that weekend. Running two HERO games there, myself. One using my Con team of the Peacekeepers, the other with a super-agent team who'll have to face supers (kind of a twist on VIPER vs. the supers... )

CorPse,

Have you decided on times/days yet? I have decided on one session for sure and maybe two, one of Sat and one on Sun, with Sat being to most likely. I never could find the old con-info I had.

Well, I know that there's one RPG game scheduled for 7pm... maybe I can figure out how the slots work from that...

But, I like to run during the day and play at night... would you like to run 7pm Sat & Sun? Then I could do earlier slots...

Sounds OK, but I will know for sure by Tuesday night. I am thinking of a mid-level supers game based on somthing easily recognizable. I have write-ups for the Teen Titans (recent cartoon version) that I may use. It tends to set the tone for new players.

Okay, I registered to run three slots at ConQuest NW. The times are yet to be verified, but at 8pm on Fri. & 1pm on Sun. I have:

Slugfest Seattle: King of the Hill

A mysterious benefactor wants to know who the toughest, nasty brick on the planet is, so he or she (or it?) has decided to hold the brawl to end all brawls. The Slugfest pits the nastiest supervillian bricks from Hero Games past and present against each other in a knock down, drag out, beatdown for the ages. Pound your enemies into submission and win the coveted Questionite Fist - along with bragging rights for a year. Prize possible. (You may play in both events.)

... and 1pm on Saturday, I signed up to run:

The Waxman Cometh

The Chicago Defenders have some big problems: a missing millionaire, an uncrackable safe, and a damsel in distress... along with the emergence of the inscrutable & uncatchable Waxman—the man who can change his appearance at will! Pulp Hero campaigning in 1920s Chicago. Prize possible.

I'd love to hear if anyone is planning on playing. Hero Boards folks = big fun. :bmk:

I was just going to drop a message. I need to finish the writing up the blurb and submitting it. I was planning on two games, one for Sat and one for Sun in the 6pm or 7pm slot. Which do you think would be better, 6 or 7? Both will use the Teen Titans (animated show, my write-ups which are based on the many suggestions from these boards). A Part 1 and a Part 2, though each scenario is a standalone and not dependent on the other. They are standard “protect the bystanders” and “stop the villains” super battles.

I don’t know if I will make it down as early as Friday since I have to work. But if I do I’d like to play in both games. Or at least help out a bit if you want me to.

The only other game I would really like to get into is the Ironclads game (historical) scheduled at 1pm Sat and Sun.

Hmmmm.....Budgetting money and time to get to this event. I would say save a spot for me, but using the Teen Titans you might get a few more people than planned for.

Are you using the TT default team of Robin, BB, Cyborg, Starfire, Raven or will extended members be included? Just asking. I want it, but must be able to get there.

Well, I have the basic group written up (stealing shamelessly from the fine folks of the Hero Forums :D ). I hadn't intended to run a group larger than five players, since I have found a supers game bogs down with larger numbers. I know GM's who have no problems with more, but I am well aware of my limitations. If I have time I may write-up some of the other characters. But I don't really intend to widen the session numbers.

If there is interest, space and time, I am more than willing to do pick-up games. I am planning to play in CorPse's games, I hardly ever get to just play, but beyond that I am really pretty open.

Cancer,

I didn't know you were in the Puget area. I am WAY up north in the Everett/Marysville area. Where are you at? If you don't want to advertise shoot me a PM or email. I was really hoping to have a face to face get together with the Hero players in the area just to chew the fat and network. I would be glad to drive as far as Tacoma to game, as long as people showed up and actually gamed. Of course a trip that far would have to be with a weekend day following. If I could get home by midnight, one weeknight a week is also doable.

My power was out for an entire week - so far, the longest of anyone I've met who lives within urban areas (one guy still was out last Friday, but he lives a ways out, and has his own generator anyway).

I'll be at ConQuest, running at least my Pulp Hero event, "Depths of Evil." Time is uncertain at this point, and I may well run it twice if I decide to go for their 15-hours-free-entry-fee threshold. I might run something else Hero, or I might do a Savage Worlds Stargate. They ran well at GenCon SoCal, with some good stories all around.

Out of habit and convenience, I generally stick to the Dragonflight time-slot scheme for RPGs: 9am, 2pm, 7pm. It gives a solid 4 hours with some time in between.

I know I and my son will be there; I don't know if my wife will show (maybe for one day), and at least one other guy from our group who was there last year will be there again. We had a pretty good time last year.

I'll be sending in my event(s) sometime this week.

7pm Sat
“And to the highest bidder the spoils”
Beast Boy has been poisoned and there is only one cure. And that is held by the mysterious figure known as the Broker. His price? Retrieve an ancient artifact and the cure is yours……Oh, and did anyone mention it’s a race and you’re not alone? Titans Go!

7pm Sun
“It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine”
An ancient evil is about to be released into the world. And what arch-enemy stands between the Titans and the dark cult? Titans Go!

Well, I might be there, I might not. Too early to tell.

BTW, does their front page need proofreading, or are their math skills off? It says:

Today is January 3, 2007

18 days until close of Game Submissions (Jan 31, 2007)
18 days until close of $37.00 prereg (Jan 31, 2007)

3+18=21, not 31.

They aren't posted yet (and I may have missed their prereg deadline), but I sent in:

Depths of Evil (Pulp Hero)
Friday 7pm
Saturday 9am (repeat event)
John Clayton. Britt Reid, and other great heroes of the 1930's must foil a nefarious plot in the mid-Atlantic Ocean.
[not the exact text, but close enough]

I'm also running Savage Worlds Stargate on Saturday evening, and the boardgame Arkham Horror on Sunday afternoon.

There's an interesting new wrinkle in my scheduling, but nothing to be concerned about yet...

I go to a combination birthday/mini-Con in Chicago every year, and the date is sliding later into February than usual. I'll certainly keep my status updated here, and if worse comes to worse I'll contact the Con and tell them to cancel my events.

I think I'm a long way from that happening, but I just wanted to keep all the Herophiles informed.

There should still e time for me to request some HERO events, if I can arrange for a membership. Unfortunately, it's kind of awkward financially this month for me; I'll be checking with the con and seeing what they suggest. A HERO presence would definitely help.

I wish this weren't the same weekend as DunDraCon. Considering DDC is a semi-major con and on the same coast, you'd think this (newer) one would have scheduled a different date. At some point I'd like to make it up to Seattle for a con, since it's certainly closer than San Francisco.

Well it seems no good plan goes unpunished. I found out this afternoon that I have to go to California. One of the guys in the company has had his health take a down turn and he can no longer work. I have to go down and cover until they bring in someone permanent and also train them up if needed.

The long and short of it is I fly out tomorrow and will be gone for up to a month. Which means I can't make the con.

So I will have to cancel.

I will be contacting the con staff to pull my listing.

Hopefully I can just move things to Dragonflight in August.

Sorry all.

My con report:

I was going to run Pulp Hero twice, repeating the same adventure. The Friday night session was full, and a lot of fun. Tarzan and Cato just ripped through the SS formation in a surprise melee attack; Nick Fury took out a couple weird science flyers; Green Hornet, the Wolfman, and Frankenstein's Monster dealt with most of the Deep Ones; and Doctor Zarkov outwitted the evil mad scientist in his own lab, not only capturing him but rescuing the Nazi scientist's beautiful, innocent daughter. Then they collapsed the dome over the Nazi sub base at Atlantis, sailing away in the two U-boats which had been empowered with the Atlantean power ray.

The Saturday morning session had only two people show up, so I really couldn't run it :( But that was a common problem (much like last year) with several more events than there were players to fill them, so I don't feel too bad (I even had one guy tell me later that if he had realized who was running it, he would have signed up for sure, so that was a nice ego stroke :p ).

That adventure is a hoot every time I run it, and always takes a different course. I'll be doing it again at Game Storm (Portland next month) and Dragonflight (Seattle in August).

My other RPG event - Savage Worlds Stargate - also went very well. My Wild Card NPCs burned through bennies way too fast (all my NPCs have a common problem with dice lice).

I played in a good game of Arkham Horror, which we were actually going to win but time ran out (real-world time, not game time!). I also got to play the new Catan-family game about barbarian tribes rampaging and founding kingdoms in the Roman Empire - a good game, with some interesting twists on the Catan motif, and enough potential strategies that it should have good replay value.

All in all, I had a pretty good time. They still need to bring more people in to *play* (mabe next year I won't run anything, and just kick back and enjoy); but it's only the second year for this con, and seems pretty well organized. Other than my on session not happening, my only regret was all the other Hero events that got pulled by the folks who suddenly couldn't make it.
