A mage character wants to have unlimited clips for there gun, how do you do this?

In essense once every 12 shots he wants to have to reload a clip, but never run out of them...

My personal method right now is to tell him to buy clips to the limit and fake it from there (House rule says charges can never cost more that if the power was built using 0 end and uncontrolable)

Whew, I thought you had shot someone.

well, how about "Must "Reload" every twelve shots" -1/4?

you have to buy the gun to 0End but it lowers the extra cost.

This is mostly a SF/X; 0 END (+½) is suitable, and they can pretend they 'reload' once every twelve shots. Otherwise, who gives a *bleep*?? ;)

What kind of gun is it? That would be a substantial disadvantage on an automatic weapon, possibly leading to reloading every other turn or so, but would barely affect a pistol.

The Modifier should be -1/4 Must spend half phase every 8 shots (or what ever the clip holds or the SPD of the character) to go through the motions of reloading. The wording is important. Otherwise, reloading requires you to have clips on your body (hence being naked except for the gun stops you) and these are magikally appearing clips, which just sort of "happen".

I've toggled with this idea myself, and when push comes to shove, its always a matter of a power at 0 End, which is really no different than an energy projector have a 0 End attack in a power framework.

Mike Surbrook has written "Wu-Fu" characters, and has some posted on his web site. He simply buys them at 0 End, and the special effect is "he always has to reload, but he can always find ammo". This is elegant and efficient.

Reloading takes a phase, unless you have a fast draw skill or something like that. I don't think it should be taken as a limitation, otherwise he gets a cost break on something that is already very elegant and efficient. The special effect of the power could simply be that he can change clips, but it takes no time.

Depending on what effects he wants to simulate, I wouldn't buy it as a focus either. You can do the old "have a real gun, VPP, summon it to my hand, etc.) or you can not build it as a focus, then take the "physical manifistation effects (-1/2)" disadvantage if you like. But you don't even have to do that. Sometimes when we talk guns we tend to think of all the disadvantages that go along with them, but the gun wielder doesn't need to have disadvantages when an energy projector won't. That doesn't seem fair.

Just my 2 cents. ;)

If I was going to be real picky, I'd buy it as 0 END with a -1/4 on the Advantage only...but they don't like you doing that in 5th. Straight up 0 END and SFX seems most appropriate.

That should only matter if you're trying to simulate MAGE:The Ascension and for some reason the effect has to be "coincidental."

Otherwise just find the Active Cost of the mage's favorite gun, apply an extra +1/2 Advantage to that for 0 END, possibly applying a -1/2 'naked' Limitation to the Advantage to simulate his ability to get endless ammo with any similar weapon.
