10d6 EB (50 points) gets aided, which adds (say) another 20 points of effect, to make it a 14d6 attack.

Now assuming someone wants to dispel the energy blast, do they need to get 50 points of effect, or 70?

Just can't quite work out which is the right approach - the power is now bigger and so needs more dispel, or the power is still a 50 point power, just boosted. Are the added points actually increasing the active points of the power or just providing a bonus effect?

Any help greatfully received.

I'd say it depends on how you got that extra 4d6.

If it's just a haymaker, then there's only 50 points of power there; the extra 4d6 means nothing, and you dispel or suppress based on those 50 points.

If it's a martial maneuver, you go by the rule that maneuvers can't be used without STR or whatever else they're based on. Suppress or, in the case of EB based MA, dispel those 50 points, and the maneuver is useless. Again, the answer stays "50".

If it's an extra 4d6 from an Aid, then there's 70 points there.

I agree with OddHat. The telling argument for me is that whenever a character's stats are raised by use of a Power (Aid, Growth, and so on), any type of damage that the character takes comes first from those added points. To me that says that those points have to be accounted for in any attack used against a character, for as long as the enhanced ability is in effect.

I thought that was probably the right approach, but it is nice to get some confirmation. Thank you.
