I want to design a super that is sorta based on a Phoenix. He will be a fire based character. Here is my problem. I want him to be somewhat weak but when he is knocked out he will be re-born and come back more powerful than before. I am not sure exactly how to do this. Anybody got any ideas?
Also, I need a good name for him. Phoenix is to obvious and to overused.
Thanks,
X'an

Have the GM squirrel away half of your earned XP. At a dramatically appropriate moment a few sessions later, ask for a "radiation accident" and enjoy your new surprise power...

Firebird works rather nicely. Or you could translate Phoenix or Firebird into other languages and see how those sound...

Well, since the entire concept is based upon the phoenix, the "phoenix" should at least be a part of the name. Something like "Red Phoenix" or something. Failing that you could do a resurrection theme like "Lazarus" or something.
As for powers, you could do this as a multiform activated when you get knocked unconscious. I'm not 100% on the rules of STUN loss from form to form, but if the second form has enough STUN you should snap back. Of course, if your GM does STUN loss as a percentage of total STUN, then you'd be just as unconscious.
You may also consider a host of powers, including a STUN boost that kicks in when you're knocked out. That would probably mean less book-keeping, and fewer rejections from your GM.

If this is supposed to be a PC, I would buy a fairly big AID, that would only activate after he was knocked out. Be sure to AID your Stun and Endurance first, asnd then AID anything else that you want at a higher power level

How about Accidental Change and Multiform? You start out in a weak base form and (accidentally) change into a stronger form [Multiform]. Have several forms set up ahead of time, each with the same Accidental Change into the Next most powerful Multiform.
Alternately you could have some power limit, like hero form, which allows you access to more power after you are knocked-out???

Well, you'll to clarify.
Permanently more powerful? In that case, it's XP. Work hard to avoid being KOed until you have the points.
Temporarily is much easier. You can use partially limited powers, the higher end only activating after recovering from being KOed (maybe on, like, a per fight basis). You could stack this. After waking up once +10 points, twice +20 points, etc.
You can use AID with triggers set to recovering. You could feasibly buy up the return time so it seems nigh-permanent...but you'll have to keep buying more points of AID for the growth proccess to continue otherwise you will max out pretty swift.

First off, thank you to those of you who have helped me.
Second, let me give a little better explanation of what I want to do:
This change should not be permanent. If his STUN is reduced to zero and he becomes unconscious he will be "reborn" and come back more powerful than before. This "new form" will fade until he is back to his normal form and the cycle can re-start again.
I have thought about the idea of having him make a die roll each round to see if he is reborn yet. So it would be possible that if he is reduced to negative STUN, but just barely, and doesn't make the "rebirth" die roll within a couple of rounds then his recovery will revive him and he'll be back as normal just like anyone else.
I guess what I'm trying to figure out is should this be done as a multiform with a negative STUN trigger or is there other better ways of doing this.
