We've all seen cartoons where a character's conscience manifests as a little angelic version of the character who then tries to persuade him to do the right thing while a little devil version tries to talk him into doing the wrong thing. Sometimes they fight each other. Sometimes the character swats one or both of them. Occasionally, one might affect the outside world just to make his point.

Say, you! Johnny Thunder didn't know he had an invisible helper when he was just starting out. Some characters are lucky, but it isn't really luck but the character's overworked guardian angel. The villain shoots at him but his aim is off because "somebody who isn't there" bumped his elbow at a critical moment. Maybe the character is searching for a clue and a sharp pain makes him jump, bonking his head against the hidden button that opens the secret panel.

Supposing a character's ex-wife were haunting him, trying to ensure his remaining days are as close to a living hell as she can arrange? Maybe it's a giant, invisible rabbit that's adopted you as his drinking buddy?

How do you model an invisible "companion" that the character may or may not be aware of?

Limitation: Haunted -X points, Xd6 Unluck
Advantage: Watched From Above: +X points, Xd6 Luck

Them's the obvious easy ones.

Here's one way to do it...

It depends on what the invisible companion actually does. I have a character with an invisible companion bought as a Contact with a really high roll. He's his spirit guide who he occasionally (at least once per session) calls on for his sage and often irreverent advice, but nothing more.

For the angel/devil thing, you could write it up as a Distinctive Feature (talks to self) or even as a Psychological Limitation (must debate weighty issues with conscious before making a decision).

If the invisible guys actually do something to effect the real world, just buy those powers, possibly with No Conscious Control, and have at it.

The Invisible companion could simply be the SFX for any number of purchased Powers.

What dust angel and ghost raven said.

Damn, I've done it again :p

A decent place to start are some NCC overall levels and NCC IPE armour. Or a NCC Aid to self. Perhaps some NCC gliding.

Or summon invisible guardian angle. NCC of course :D

You're picking up on the NCC thing here?

I'd give the character Distinctive Features (angle/devil on shoulder), Not Concealable, "what-ever-you-want" for reaction, Detectable Only By Unusual Senses. Beyond that, Luck/Unluck seems perfect.

If the character actually gets advice subconsciously... I'd use a Psychological Limitation. Perhaps, a code of ethics. This would also help with Mind Controls and such.

You better be careful or we'll drag you into this!

Then again, I kind of like the sound of Sean Raen, Dust Angel and Ghost Waters...

I agree with above, this one is just like standard hero powers.

figure out the effect of an angel on the character's shoulder
build the power
add special effects and go home happy

What an obtuse thing to say. :)

I've done Telekinesis with invisible power effect and Uncontrollable to resemble a character who is followed by a trixter.
