One of my favorite aircraft of that era. Awesome amount of firepower.

Two of the last kills of WWII were credited to Black Widows when Japanese pilots flew into the ocean trying to avoid them.

One nitpick - the 20mm cannons weren't nose mounted, they were mounted under the fusalage, further back.

I will correct the text, it shouldnt have any real effect on the firing arc will it?

Shouldn't, no.

In an alternate world, they used something more like the late proposed escort fighter variant, with just 2 crew in a less unusual fusalage layout, the radar still in the nose, and without the turret...would have been quite a bit faster in all likelihood.

I liked the Tigercat, which I got to "fly" in one of the Sierra fighter games.

Aces of the Pacific I think. It's a really old one at this point. (It worked so much better on the 486 than the 386...)

My uncle flew the P-61 in WWII. He said it was a great plane to fly. Later, during the Korean War he flew the F-82 Twin Mustang with one of his buddies having the first air to air kill of the war.

There's currently an effort to get a 61 flying again and they just recently put one on display at the new Aerospace meseum at Dullas in DC.

as in opperational range
that means how far out it can go before needing to turn back
also speed given would be max
cruising speed would be 1/2 to 2/3 of max and is generally 80%of the time what the plane will be flying at
