View Full Version : Damage Shield Missing from 1.46?

I don't know why, but I can no longer find Damage Shield under the Advantage tab in Hero Designer 1.46. I've tried loading and unloading several different characters, and still I cannot find this Advantage. If the Advantage had been purchased on a character before the 1.46 update, it is still on the character.
Any idea what is going on?

Is the power that you are applying Damage Shield to Constant or been made Constant by applying the Continuous advantage? If not, then the Damage Shield Advantage will not be available until you do so.

Repeat after me: "Damage Shield can only be applied to Constant Powers."
You are trying to apply it to an Instant Power, therefore it does not show up in the available list. If you select "Continuous" as an advantage, you will then find Damage Shield listed.

I would like to point out that this question has been asked and answered numerous times on this board and Damage Shield is specifically used as an example in the sidebar on Modifier Intelligence in the documentation.

Any chance that in v2 the Damage Shield advantage will show up on the list and the Continuous advantage will automaticly be applied if the power isn't already Continuous?

None whatsoever. I have no interest in automatically assigning Modifiers to Powers....that will piss off just as many people as it would please and goes against the design philosophy of the app.
There is going to be very different mechanism surrounding the modifier intelligence on v2 which will address this, however. Specifically, the modifiers list (the one that currently shows the available advantages and limitations) will have two additional tabs: "unavailable advantages" and "unavailable limitations". When a modifier on one of the "unavailable" tabs is selected, you will be able to see why it is not available. For example, clicking on Damage Shield in the above situation would yield a dialog stating that "Damage Shield can only be applied to Constant Powers or Powers that are bought with the Continuous Advantage."

And I would like to point out that this board is here to help those of us who have questions about the 5th Edition Hero System and the Hero Designer. Not all of us have hours of free time to search the boards to see if the question we need to ask has been asked (and answered) a week ago, or what have you. Some of use have full time jobs, a family to care for, and responsibilities that consume much of our free time. We use the Hero boards for a short cut, to find the answer to the question that may currently elude us when we only have a few moments to spare.
Dsimon gave an appropriate response to my question, and was polite in pointing out the oversight I made concerning the construction of Damage Shields. Your post (see above) was not necessary and quite rude. I don't appreciate being talked down to, as if I was some kind of idiot, as I'm sure nor do any others seeking answers to questions on the Hero boards. I've run the same Champions campaign for 10 years straight now, with between 9 to 11 players at all times, with an average of 22 game sessions a year. That plus work, family, and other reponsibilities tends to make my free time limited. So sue me if I need to use the board to ask a question previously asked. Not all of us have the vast amounts of free time that you apparently do to monitor how many times a particular question has been posted.

Hey! Don't go around accusing me of being polite!
I've got a reputation to think about here.....you're going to ruin close to a year of work if you keep that crap up.....
Freakin' newbie....

I apologize for my comment. It was a bit snarky. But you will note that I did answer your question too.
I just get annoyed when it looks like no one is bothering to read the documentation that I spent a large chunk of my limited free time preparing.
Once again, I'm sorry.

Sounds workable. Also sounds like you've changed the layout a bit. And it should cut down on some of the questions a bit.
I look forward to seeing it.

Apology accepted. I would like to apologize myself for going off on you. After some thought on the subject, I can understand where you were coming from with your reply.

Thanks. And once again, sorry. There's a reason I write computer documentation and don't do customer support :)
Glad you liked the web site.
