Please try to get it to support other types of image than JPEG (Gif would be nice for instance)

Already being looked at.
It's mainly a legal concern, as the "owners" of the GIF compression format have taken to suing folks that use it for royalties, and that's something that neither I nor HG can afford.
I'll be opening things up as much as I can for v2, however.

PNG is free, and I believe that the patent on GIF expired on June 20. Not sure, though.

There's a couple of "Burn your GIF's" Web sites that deal with this. I got rid of all mine and converted to Jpegs.

The GIF format is now free of any legal impediment. The patent expired about a month ago, to the cheers and rejoicing of the online geek crowd.
In any case, the only way a programmer was liable for licencing fees was if the app actually wrote GIF files; display of existing GIFs was never an issue, legally.
