Green Ronin to Publish a Song of Fire and Ice?
http://greenronin.com/2007/04/a_song_of_ice_and_fire_rpg.php

I am confused? First Guardians of Order, White Wolf, & now Green Ronin Publishing.

Excellent - there's a fair chance it won't be D20 then. All to the good.

I just hope it doesn't have classes or levels. Anything else is a bonus.

One requirement is that character generation must be quick. If you don't go through three or four characters a game session you just can't capture the feel of the books.

Thanks for the warning.

Hey Tunnels and Trolls :D

of course if you go through characters during character creation we could be talking Traveler.........:sneaky:

I was already disinclined (is that a word?) to not pay this any mind simply due to having no familiarity with the source material. Knowing that it's 'in genre' for characters to croak so easily definitely puts it on my 'don't care' list.

It's a very gritty setting.

Keith "because gritty, is , y'know, more realistic..." Curtis

If I want realism, I'll watch the news. :)

There is always that option to keep in mind, "Don't play the game". There is no requirement for anyone to buy or play games they don't enjoy.

Of course, it's also fine to whinge about it too :) Just bear in mind that there are more genres in heaven and earth*, than are liked by everyone that roleplays. This happens to be one I like.

(*paraphrased Shakespeare quote there)

If you made it comical, it'd be no different than Paranoia in feel. :) Well, other than the lack of laser pistols and nuke grenades.

Of course, the main difference of the war-of-the-roses inspired Song of Ice and Fire and realism, is of course that it is set in a medieval period. Realistically, we don't live in a medieval period - so there isn't that much gritty realism in it :)
(where are the cars? The internet? This ain't realistic! What's this role-playing thing again?)
That, and there's magic and non-human races.

I actually like intrigue. I'd love to play in a well-run intrigue campaign. If somebody were trying to emulate the actual books, then I'd have serious problems with the game. I like heroic characters. As far as I read into the series of books, all I saw were those potential heroes being killed left and right for having ethics and morals.

If the game system being built allows for the kind of intrigue without the autodeath of anybody even remotely decent, then I could sink my teeth into it. I'd probably worship the ground any GM capable of maintaining such a complex game walked on.

Then again, my HERO jingoism proudly calls out that HERO would work as well anyway. :)

I think it will generally come down the the particular peccadilloes of the GM like any other roleplaying game as to whether ethical = invulnerable.
It'll depend on what kind of tone they are setting for their game.
I presume most GMs here will reward ethical behaviour with probability/chance rewards (ie fudge die rolls and so forth so character survive) just because most GMs here come from a superhero genre background and that's the way they think.
